Mapbox is the leading real-time location platform for a new generation of location-aware businesses. Mapbox is the only platform that equips organizations with the full set of tools to power the navigation of people, packages, and vehicles everywhere. More than 4 million registered developers have chosen Mapbox because of the platform’s flexibility, security and privacy compliance. Organizations use Mapbox applications, data, SDKs and APIs to create customized and immersive experiences that delight their customers.

What We Do

The IT team has the twin responsibilities of making the technology that every Mapboxer uses as effective and frictionless as possible while also optimizing the performance of our corporate technology stack. We do that by promoting secure, repeatable processes, supporting data wherever it lives, and delivering self-service solutions whenever possible.

Everyone at Mapbox is a customer, a stakeholder, and a partner, often all at the same time. IT has a diverse range of functions, including incident response, laptop support, office networking, audio/visual administration, SaaS application integration, new hire orientation, and end-user training. This role focuses on the systems and identity infrastructure that make that support possible, working alongside our dedicated help desk team who own the front line.

What You'll Do

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Own secure configuration, provisioning, and lifecycle management of identity and access across Okta, AWS, GitHub, Google Cloud, G Suite, and other systems of record — treating identity as the foundation of our security posture.

  • Manage and secure our endpoint fleet (macOS/Windows/Linux) via MDM, including compliance baselines and automated deployment, so devices are secure and functional before a ticket is ever filed.

  • Own the in-office LAN, WiFi, audio-visual, conferencing, and computing systems end-to-end from a remote position.

  • Continuously mine ticket trends to identify what shouldn't be a ticket at all — building automation and self-service tooling that resolves issues before they reach the help desk, and partnering with the help desk team to keep escalations rare and well-documented.

  • Serve as the technical escalation point for issues the help desk can't resolve — approachable, fast, and using every escalation as an input for the next automation.

  • Support the smooth onboarding of new hires and manage the full employee IT lifecycle from a systems perspective (provisioning, access, deprovisioning).

  • Partner with Security on audit readiness (SOC 2, access reviews) for the systems you own.

  • Participate in weekly sprints and IT projects, both as a contributor and as a leader.

What We Believe are Important Traits for This Role

  • Experience with our IT tools and platforms of choice, including macOS, Windows 11, different Linux distros, Okta SAML, GitHub, Slack, Google G Suite, Jamf, Zoom, Jira, and Confluence.

  • Experience in a fast-paced IT organization that prioritizes security, automation, and system reliability, working closely alongside a dedicated support/help desk function.

  • Comfortable serving as a technical escalation point and SME — self-motivated to eliminate the root cause of repetitive tickets rather than just resolving them one at a time.

  • The ability to thrive as a regional operator as part of a geographically diverse, fully remote team. While Mapbox deeply values team support and interaction, most forms of team communication will not be in real time.

  • Comfortable working in spoken and written English. Knowledge of Japanese is a plus.

  • A love for problem solving, and a commitment to frictionless risk reduction. You dig into the root causes of issues, think outside the box, and strive for 'secure by default' whenever possible.

  • Experience configuring and maintaining common small office networking products.

  • Experience automating with scripting languages like bash. Knowledge of Node.js or Python is a plus.

  • Familiarity with Agile frameworks to keep projects on track and delivered at velocity.

What We Value

In addition to our core values, which are not unique to this position and are necessary for Mapbox leaders:

  • We value high-performing creative individuals who dig into problems and opportunities.

  • We believe in individuals being their whole selves at work. We commit to this through supportive health care, parental leave, flexibility for the things that come up in life, and innovating on how we think about supporting our people.

  • We emphasize an environment of teaching and learning to equip employees with the tools needed to be successful in their function and the company.

  • We strongly believe in the value of growing a diverse team and encourage people of all backgrounds, genders, ethnicities, abilities, and sexual orientations to apply.

How We Support You

  • Hybrid/Remote Options: Enjoy flexibility to work comfortably from home or periodically from an office where applicable.

  • Comprehensive Healthcare: Private medical coverage for you and your dependents.

  • Family-First Support: Generous maternity and paternity leave policies to support your growing family.

  • Fertility & Family Building: Inclusive fertility support. Grow your family on your terms.

  • Lifestyle Spending Account: Contributions to support your health, wellness, and personal growth.

  • Balance & Brainpower: Mental health support for you and your dependents.

  • Rest & Recharge: Flexible paid time away, company holidays, and generous absence policies.

  • Time Off to Give Back: Dedicated paid volunteering time in addition to your standard PTO.

  • Invest & Grow: Retirement plans with competitive matching.

Our annual base compensation for this role ranges from $83,300 - $112,700 for most US locations and 5% to 10% higher for US locations with a higher cost of labor.
