We are seeking a dynamic Technical Project Manager (TPM) to join Tumblr and play a pivotal role in driving efficiency and alignment across multiple teams within our matrix-style organization. As we’ve grown, the complexity of managing cross-functional collaboration has increased, and we need a dedicated individual to ensure no detail is overlooked. This role will be essential in enhancing coordination, identifying risks early, and streamlining communication across engineering, product, and engineering platform leads.

As a TPM at Tumblr, you’ll be central to maintaining structured project roadmaps, facilitating seamless communication, and ensuring teams have the information they need to avoid blockers and stay on track. You’ll help us scale efficiently by reducing overhead for engineers and product managers, allowing them to focus on execution. This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on how we work, improve collaboration across teams, and contribute to Tumblr’s continued growth. If you’re looking for a role where you can influence outcomes and drive meaningful change, this is the one for you!

Responsibilities:

  • Foster strong cross-functional relationships to become a trusted partner for distributed interdisciplinary teams, ensuring smooth collaboration and alignment on product and feature development.

  • Proactively identify and mitigate risks, removing barriers before they become roadblocks to ensure timely delivery of features and products across teams.

  • Drive continuous process improvement by championing best in class software development practices, tailoring workflows like scrums, planning, and review sessions to the unique needs of each team.

  • Ensure seamless communication and transparency, reducing back-and-forth and keeping all teams and stakeholders aligned on priorities, goals, and progress through structured check-ins and clear project roadmaps.

  • Collaborate with the executive team to manage and drive strategic initiatives, aligning operational processes with broader company goals and tracking measurable outcomes.

  • Streamline cross-team dependencies, ensuring teams have the resources and information they need to avoid blockers and reduce inefficiencies.

  • Enable teams to focus on core responsibilities by alleviating coordination overhead, allowing engineers and product managers to concentrate on execution rather than operational alignment.

  • Demonstrate adaptive leadership by responding to uncertainty and evolving project scopes, maintaining flexibility in problem-solving approaches as teams face shifting priorities.

  • Create a culture of accountability and visibility, where all stakeholders have a clear understanding of timelines, project statuses, and potential risks, enhancing trust and collaboration across Tumblr.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in a project management role within a technology company.

  • Proven ability to manage and execute complex projects, identifying and mitigating risks effectively.

  • Strong experience working across various technologies, including infrastructure, data, mobile, frontend, and backend systems.

  • Proficiency in using Slack, Google Suite, and GitHub to drive collaboration and project tracking.

  • Demonstrated success in uniting and motivating distributed teams across multiple time zones in a dynamic, iterative environment.

  • Skilled at mediating between diverse priorities and personalities to create alignment and consensus.

  • Experience influencing stakeholders and driving decision-making across cross-functional teams.

Salary range: $85,000-$175,000 USD - Please note that salary ranges are global, regardless of location, and we pay in local currency.
