We’re looking for a Staff Software Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimization of our software installation frameworks using InstallShield, along with core components of our Clinical module written in C, C++, and C#. You will be responsible for streamlining our Dentrix software deployment processes and improving install and upgrade experiences for a wide range of customers – from large enterprise clients to small clinics. If you’re passionate about software quality, installer reliability, and developer enablement, this is the role for you! This position is remote in the United States with up to 10% travel as needed. What You Will Do
Lead the design and reliability of InstallShield projects, custom actions, and other features for Dentrix desktop application
Lead initiatives to modernize and standardize our installer infrastructure, including versioning, rollback, silent install contracts, and upgrade strategies
Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, DevOps and support, ensuring a seamless and iterative design process that integrates feedback at every stage
Troubleshoot and resolve complex installation-related issues across supported Windows environments
Contribute to the development of core application components in C, C++, and C#, ensuring maintainability and performance
Mentor other engineers and set best practices in packaging, deployment, automated install testing, and legacy code modernization
Strong understanding of databases and ability to support database schema management
Use AI-assisted development tools responsibly and champion AI assisted engineering

What We Are Looking For
8 or more years building solid Windows desktop and backend enterprise applications in C#/.NET and C++
3+ years of hands-on experience with package management tools, preferably InstallShield
In depth knowledge of Windows OS, Windows Installer (MSI), and registry/file system operations
Experienced with object-oriented design, SOLID, clean and layered architecture, and MVVM, backed by dependency injection and unit testing
Comfort moving around a codebase that's part native and part managed, including C++/CLI or P/Invoke interop between older C++ and newer C#
Excellent debugging and troubleshooting skills related to installation and runtime behaviors and processes
Clear and confident communicator who thrives in a collaborative, knowledge-sharing culture
Ability to lead cross-functional efforts and effectively within engineering, QA, DevOps, and support in an agile scrum environment
Ability to own technical design decisions and understanding and defining cross-team interdependent roadmaps
What Will Set You Apart
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field
Prior experience as a team or technical lead
Hands-on experience with dental or healthcare or other regulated healthcare data
Experience modernizing legacy Win32 or MFC desktop application toward layered or service-oriented designs
Experience with WiX, Chocolatey, Scoop, Winget or other modern packaging frameworks
Comfort instrumenting analytics to track performance and adoption and catch regressions early
Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and build automation tools
Familiarity with digital signing processes, elevation/privilege handling, and silent installs
Familiarity with Faircom database
Familiarity with clean architecture and similar patterns
What you’ll gain as a #TeamSchein member The posted range for this position is $150,000 - $165,000, which is the expected starting salary range for an employee who is new to the role to fully proficient in the role. Many factors go into determining employee pay within the posted range including prior experience, current skills, location/labor market, internal equity, etc. This position is eligible for a bonus target not reflected in the range.
