Apply for this position

NOTE: This is a FULLY remote role, but the candidate must be within the EMEA region to collaborate with their team, peers, and internal customers. You do not have to be in the specific country or city shown in this listing, but please only apply if you are physically based within the EMEA region.

Hostaway is the market-leading SaaS scale-up transforming the vacation rental industry. With innovative solutions and partnerships with giants like Airbnb, VRBO, and Booking, we're taking on the competition and winning. Leveraging our customer-centric core values, we consistently deliver results that encourage growth, learning, and innovation for our team, our customers, and the industry.

As a profitable and growing company, this role is necessitated by our continued growth. Check out more about our recent funding round of $365 million here.

About the role:

As a Staff DevOps engineer you will be a member of the Platform Engineering group at Hostaway which is largely responsible for keeping our systems secure, reliable and our developers iterating fast.

As a Staff member of the team you will be expected to collaborate across multiple teams and bridge gaps between DevOps and the wider engineering department. You will identify gaps with our platform and write technical Architectural Decision Records to address them, implement the changes and see them through to production.

You will actively shape priorities and drive initiatives across core engineering topics, shaping our work with a Platform-first approach treating the rest of engineering as customers.

Key responsibilities

  • Define and drive the technical strategy for our infrastructure, security, and the adoption of modern DevOps methodologies (Containerization, Configuration Management, CI/CD, IaC, Monitoring).

  • Lead the architectural design and evolution of our Kubernetes platform, ensuring it is scalable, reliable, and easy for development teams to leverage.

  • Act as a thought leader and ambassador for reliability across the company. You will guide architectural decisions to improve observability and work with teams to establish meaningful SLOs, actionable alerts, and robust runbooks.

  • Spearhead collaborative efforts with development teams to architect and optimize CI/CD pipelines, creating a streamlined, efficient, and highly performant software delivery lifecycle.

  • Champion an automation-first mindset, identifying and eliminating toil at a systemic level.

  • Lead the resolution of critical, complex issues across our platforms and environments, addressing systemic challenges related to availability, performance, and configuration. You will be a key leader in our incident management process and drive its continuous improvement.

  • 7+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, with a deep understanding of DevOps principles and methodologies.

  • Proven track record of leading complex, cross-functional technical initiatives from conception to completion, influencing architecture and strategy across multiple teams.

  • Expert-level, professional AWS expertise is a hard requirement. You should have a history of designing, building, and operating AWS infrastructure at scale, with a deep knowledge of its services and best practices. GCP knowledge is a plus.

  • Extensive experience of Terraform / OpenTofu for infrastructure as code. You should be comfortable architecting and maintaining large, modular codebases.

  • Expertise in classic sysadmin topics: Linux administration, advanced networking, complex Bash scripting, and implementing security best practices at an architectural level.

  • Professional experience architecting and managing Kubernetes ecosystems is required. Deep knowledge of Helm and ArgoCD is a significant plus.

  • In-depth knowledge of modern observability stacks and a demonstrated ability to implement and champion the SRE approach to reliability (SLOs/SLIs, error budgets, eliminating toil, customer-centric focus).

  • Strong proficiency in at least one programming language and be able to architect, write, and debug complex production code, as well as develop new tooling to support platform-wide initiatives.

What we offer

  • Competitive Compensation: We offer competitive pay based on market rates in the country of the applicant.

  • 100% Remote: Enjoy the freedom to work from anywhere within your country of residence—be it a co-working space, your home office, or even your dining room table. The choice is yours. Just don’t ask to work in our office (we don’t have one).

  • Equity: Every role in our company comes with valuable stock options in a fast-growing and profitable company. This ensures we all share in the company’s success.

  • Values-Driven Leadership: Our Core Values are not just words we’ve written to make us feel good. We leverage them daily when making strategic and tactical decisions.

  • Professional Growth: Our rapid growth offers unparalleled learning and development opportunities, along with a multitude of career advancement opportunities.

  • Annual Paid Leave: The specific amounts vary by country and are aligned with country and/or contract-specific norms.

  • Geographic Specific Benefits: As an international employer, we offer different country-specific benefits such as Health Insurance and Pensions in countries where these perks are customary. The specifics depend on the country of the applicant.

  • Dynamic Team Culture: As a global company with team members in over 40 countries, our diverse and international culture fuels our innovation and creativity, providing a key pillar to our success (and making it a lot of fun to work here).

Thank you for your interest. If you apply for this role, you will receive an email from our Talent Acquisition team after your application has been reviewed alongside the qualifications for this role and the qualifications of others who have applied.
