About the Role

Craft is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead our Data Platform team responsible for defining and implementing standards for data storage in Databricks using a medallion architecture, defining patterns for interacting with our data, using automation methods to track and monitor all data, and creating tools for data operations. All to power our supplier risk management products and services.

The data platform team(s), aka DISCoE, is growing and covering areas of the business that in the past were afterthoughts. DISCoE’s mission is to make our data a first class citizen of the business from sourcing and ingestion to structure and consumption.

This role is supported by an amazing data product manager, where the two of you will partner to deliver on our mission, and together establish our data vision.

The team has members in the US and Poland. This is a remote role, but we have a strong preference for candidates based in Eastern or Central time zones due to the current team members’ time zones. Outside of those time zones, we're also eager to speak with candidates based in Seattle, WA.

What You'll Do

  • Lead up to two globally distributed teams with members in the US, Poland, and possibly LATAM.

  • Work closely with your Product Manager counterpart, defining and aligning on priority and execution.

  • Recruit and retain top talent, leading with empathy and accountability.

  • Build a culture of continuous improvement in the team's code, architecture, and processes, and use metrics to measure change.

  • Help lead and contribute to engineering-wide initiatives with your engineering leadership colleagues.

  • Build beautiful, well-tested pipelines and data structures.

  • Have unlimited opportunity for taking ownership of areas with increasing scope, and for technical and leadership growth.

Who You Are

  • Have a proven successful track record of leading and empowering software development teams for SaaS products.

  • Have experience and a desire to build data lakes and assembled data structures, including data pipelines.

  • 7+ years in the software industry, including at least three years leading engineering teams.

  • You have a good understanding that partnering with the business to deliver real value is a key motivator for keeping your teams happy and healthy.

  • You practice radical responsibility and accountability, with a positive attitude, and a strong emphasis of keeping your teams from getting blocked.

  • Show curiosity through asking questions, digging into new technologies, and always trying to grow.

  • Strong team player, great listener, able to facilitate discussion and assimilate diverse opinions towards clear decisions.

Our current technology stack is:

  • Applications: React, TypeScript, Node.js, GraphQL, Apollo

  • AWS Services: Batch, Athena, Lambda, Kinesis, Kafka, and others

  • Data Pipelines: Python, SQL, Pandas, Dask, aws-data-wrangler, Papermill, Airflow, Prefect

  • Data Storage: Databricks, RDS / Aurora Postgres, DynamoDB, AWS S3

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary starting at $180,000 USD/ year. This starting number can be increased based on levels of expertise, location, cost of living, taxes, market experience, etc.

  • Equity at a well-funded, fast-growing startup

  • Unlimited vacation time so you can take what you need, when you need it

  • 99% covered Health + Dental + Vision insurance for employees and dependents

  • 401K through Empower with options to invest how you want it

  • $200 monthly wellness/ learning stipend (Gym memberships, meals, snacks, books, classes, conferences, etc.)
