Netflix is one of the world's leading entertainment services, with 283 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.

Netflix has changed how people watch shows and movies, enabling on-demand access to thousands of movies and TV shows. Recently, Netflix has expanded its entertainment offering to include Live content, like the Tom Brady Roast, the SAG Awards ceremony, WWE Live events and NFL Christmas games. Bringing stories in real-time to 260+ million viewers around the world is a hard challenge, setting high requirements for levels of operational observability into key health metrics across dozens of services and systems between camera and device screens.

About Security Platforms Engineering

Security Platforms Engineering (SPE) scales Netflix’s security insights and controls via unified data and insights for security engineers, automated risk reduction, context-aware security guidance for the workforce, and informing strategic security decisions. SPE strives for an environment where security controls scale and are automatically applied with growth, critical risks are systematically reduced, and the workforce is freed from routine security decisions while being empowered to make confident, proactive, risk-informed choices when they matter.

SPE is looking for software engineers in two teams: Security Posture Insights & Management, and Engineering Controls Automation Team.

Security Posture Insights & Management (SPOT): You will own the backend that powers Pelorus, SPOT’s security posture insights product that enables data-informed decision making. You will drive technical architecture and development to meet Pelorus product and stakeholder needs, ensure engineering excellence and service reliability, and collaborate with security partners to evolve the core security posture data and software models.

Engineering Controls Automation Team (ECAT): You will build and advance our engineering security controls automation charter at Netflix, taking an engineering-first approach to reducing the risk of software vulnerabilities to our vast engineering ecosystem. You will be responsible for designing and delivering reliable software that helps us scalably-resolve our most impactful security risks.

SPE deeply believes in a collaborative model of security, and that the best outcomes are driven by a shared understanding of security risk. This is a highly cross functional role. You will be working with other teams and stakeholders within Security and across Netflix, including fellow engineers, product managers, security experts, internal customers, and more.

Candidates with prior experience working in a security related environment, or on security challenges and security software will be prioritized.

We are looking for stunning colleagues who enable our mission and support our culture.

You should have:

  • Strong experience in software development and Python, with bonus points for PySpark experience.

  • Strong system design and data architecture skills.

  • Proven history of shaping and delivering thoughtful end-to-end software solutions.

  • Product focused mindset, and ability to balance short and long term needs.

  • Familiarity with data engineering and data analytics concepts, and enjoy wrangling data into insights and digging into hard questions.

Team specific bonus points

  • SPOT: Experience with analytical data stores (such as Druid).

  • ECAT: Proven ability to drive security engineering solutions and reduce security risk at scale.

You will succeed in this role if you:

  • Believe that a diverse and inclusive team is a critical aspect of a sustainable and effective work environment.

  • Take a pragmatic approach - in security risk or software design, you balance nuances and tradeoffs.

  • Are customer-focused and empathetic - with attention to both user experience and security impact.

  • Effectively communicate complex subjects to our internal customers and partners.

  • Enjoy taking full ownership of open-ended problems, from concept to production, including effective management of your own time.

  • Care about improving the systems around you, and leaving things better than you found them.

  • Use data to inform and communicate your decisions.

Compensation:

Generally, our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is 100,000 - $720,000.

Benefits:

Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits. We also offer paid leave of absence programs.  Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off to be used for vacation, holidays, and sick paid time off. Full-time salaried employees are immediately entitled to flexible time off. See more detail about our Benefits here.

Inclusion is a Netflix value and we strive to host a meaningful interview experience for all candidates. If you want an accommodation/adjustment for a disability or any other reason during the hiring process, please send a request to your recruiting partner.

We are an equal-opportunity employer and celebrate diversity, recognizing that diversity builds stronger teams. We approach diversity and inclusion seriously and thoughtfully. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, ancestry, national origin, caste, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity or expression, age, disability, medical condition, pregnancy, genetic makeup, marital status, or military service.

Job is open for no less than 7 days and will be removed when the position is filled.
