Join the Deployment Orchestration team under Platform Engineering as our next Software Engineer.

About the job

This position is needed to augment the Deployment Orchestration team, focusing on providing product teams at Twilio a safe, secure, and automated path to production by focusing on progressive rollout strategies and robust guardrails, ensuring that software engineers can deploy frequently without compromising on stability or security.

In the short term, the team is building a new unified deployment orchestrator to support automated deployments across environments and regions leveraging standard pipelines and tests, while simultaneously consolidating and modernizing existing solutions across multiple compute targets such as AWS EC2 VMs and EKS clusters.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll:

  • Develop, test, and deploy code and configuration to support internal deployment tooling infrastructure

  • Write tickets, spikes, and runbooks for the team, as well as internal product documentation for Twilio

  • Operationalize Harness as a unified deployment platform, supporting standardized pipeline templates

  • Own and operate a mix of industry standard and Twilio bespoke deployment orchestration tooling

  • Support product engineering teams with migrations and debugging of deployment pipeline failures

  • Ensure system uptime by participating in a 24x7 weekly oncall rotation alongside the rest of the team

*Required:

  •  5+ years of full-time job experience in a software engineering role on a platform engineering team

  • Ability to work in an async software development environment leveraging GitHub, Jira, Slack, and Zoom

  • Proficiency in any/all of the following programming languages: Go, Java, Python, Terraform, YAML, Bash

  • Experience with Kubernetes GitOps deployments, including Argo CD, Argo Rollouts, and Argo Workflows

  • Experience developing in an AWS cloud environment, with a focus on EC2, EKS, ASG, Aurora, and IAM

  • Experience with SaaS and open source observability tools, such as Datadog, Grafana, and Prometheus

Desired:

  • Familiarity with SaaS CI/CD tooling including but not limited to Harness, Buildkite, and Terraform Cloud

  • Fluency with AI platforms such as Claude, ChatGPT, and/or Copilot to accelerate software development

Location

This role will be remote, but is not eligible to be hired in CA, CT, NJ, NY, PA, WA.

Travel 

We prioritize connection and opportunities to build relationships with our customers and each other. For this role, you may be required to travel occasionally to participate in project or team in-person meetings.

*Please note this role is open to candidates outside of California, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Washington D.C., and Washington State. The information below is provided for candidates hired in those locations only.

The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows:

  • Based in Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Vermont or Washington D.C. : $138,700 - $173,400

  • Based in New York, New Jersey, Washington State, or California (outside of the San Francisco Bay area): $146,800 - $183,600

  • Based in the San Francisco Bay area, California: $163,100 - $203,900.

  • This role may be eligible to participate in Twilio’s equity plan and corporate bonus plan. All roles are generally eligible for the following benefits: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave.

The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location..
