About the role
The Documents team is a critical Tier 1 platform team, ensuring the accuracy, quality, and integrity of all documents generated within our insurance platform. These documents play a vital role in delivering policies, contracts, and legal communications, making them essential to the customer experience and the overall platform’s success.
As an engineer on the Documents team, you will actively contribute to the development and execution of key projects. You will lead small-scale initiatives while collaborating with your peers and cross-functional teams, ensuring the reliability and scalability of our document systems. In this role, you’ll work closely with product and business stakeholders to ensure the alignment of document outputs with business requirements, while driving improvements in document generation and quality.
You’ll participate in on-call rotations, contributing to maintaining operational stability, and will be an active participant in agile practices like sprints, retrospectives, and planning sessions. As an engineer, you'll have opportunities to step into leadership roles, guide junior team members, and make impactful contributions to both team success and broader platform goals.
Responsibilities
Write scalable, efficient, and maintainable code with a focus on performance, security, and reliability.
Develop and execute comprehensive unit, integration, and end-to-end tests, ensuring code is deployed with confidence and high quality.
Implement robust alerting, monitoring, and dashboarding solutions to proactively maintain operational stability and system observability.
Lead small-scale projects independently or collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams on medium to large projects, partnering with stakeholders for successful delivery.
Participate in peer code reviews, contributing to team knowledge sharing and maintaining coding best practices.
Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, with 1-3 years of professional software development experience or a combination of internships and relevant project work.
Proficient in modern programming languages, preferably Python or Golang, with a strong focus on writing clean, maintainable, and testable code.
Solid understanding of distributed systems and microservices architectures, including design, scalability, and fault tolerance.
Experience working with public cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure, with a focus on cloud-native services and infrastructure management.
Familiarity with observability concepts, such as log aggregation, tracing, and metrics collection, and the tools to implement them.
Working knowledge of both SQL and NoSQL databases and an understanding of when to apply each based on application needs.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly and collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
Ability to communicate and collaborate with product and business stakeholders, simplify complex ideas, and drive consensus.
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to clearly identify issues and develop effective solutions for resolving challenges or unique problem sets.
Bonus Points
Domain knowledge in insurance, document creation, configurable services.
Full stack engineer, capable of developing both front-end and back-end code.
Experience with monitoring solutions such as Datadog.
Familiarity with designing and authoring technical design documents, explaining complex systems or features.
Exposure to AI/ML concepts, especially Large Language Models (LLMs), and how they can be applied to practical solutions.
Compensation
Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The US base salary for this position ranges from $85,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $140,000/year in our highest geographic market. Consistent with applicable laws, an employee's pay within this range is based on a number of factors, which include but are not limited to relevant education, skills, job-related knowledge, qualifications, work experience, credentials, and/or geographic location.
