Senior Engineering Manager, Patient & Provider Experiences

Location:Remote (United States)

Department:Product & Engineering

Reports To:Senior Director, Software Engineering

Applicants who live within 35 miles of either the Burlington, NC or Durham, NC location will follow a hybrid schedule. This schedule includes a minimum of three in-office days per week at an assigned location, either Burlington or Durham, supporting both collaboration and flexibility. Applicants from other areas will be considered for remote employment.

Labcorp genetics (formerly Invitae) is looking for a seasonedSenior Engineering Managerto lead the newly formed Patient & Provider Experiences team. This team owns the experiences on invitae.com that patients and providers rely on.You'llguide engineers across both frontend and backendsystemsso comfort and experience in both is essential. A key strategic priority will beidentifyingthe best elements ofInvitae'sspecialty testing experiences and reshaping them to serve allLabcorpcustomers.

This is a foundational leadership role.You'llshape the team's culture, technical direction, and operating rhythm from the ground up. The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguity, brings clarity to complex cross-functional initiatives, and is energized by the opportunity to improve how patients and providers interact with critical healthcare services.

This person would own the software development lifecycle for a set of software systems including operational and production support responsibilities. They would manage a team of software engineers and provide coaching, mentorship, career development, architectural guidance, and support to their team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Team Leadership & Strategy

    • Lead a team to deliver complex, open-ended projects aligned with business goals.

    • Define and communicate a clear technical vision that supports organizational strategy.

    • Foster a high-performing, inclusive team culture centered on growth, accountability, and impact.

  • Technical Execution

    • Set and manage objectives across teams, ensuring timely, high-quality delivery.

    • Guide system architecture and design across boundaries, offering actionable feedback on engineering decisions.

    • Introduce and optimize processes to improve team efficiency and outcomes.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Build strong partnerships with internal stakeholders and adjacent teams.

    • Resolve misalignments and conflicting goals with clarity and diplomacy.

    • Influence outcomes across the organization without relying on formal authority.

  • Talent Development

    • Assess team performance and potential regularly in a fair, transparent manner.

    • Support career development through coaching, feedback, and growth opportunities.

    • Invest in personal leadership development through continuous learning and feedback.

  • Communication & Change Leadership

    • Communicate proactively and effectively to ensure alignment across teams and stakeholders.

    • Lead teams through change and uncertainty with calmness, clarity, and confidence.

    • Oversee production support rotations, ensuring high availability and reliability.

    • Drive incident remediation and implement corrective action plans following outages.

EDUCATION

  • Requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years of experience.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proven track record of delivering complex technical projects with measurable business impact.

  • Strong understanding of system design, architecture, and cross-functional trade-offs.

  • Experience driving organizational change and influencing outcomes across teams.

  • Exceptional communication, conflict resolution, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Passion for mentoring, team development, and building inclusive engineering cultures.

  • Ability to thrive in ambiguous environments with a high degree of autonomy.

  • Commitment to operational excellence through improved monitoring, observability, and tooling.

  • Technical acumen to create clarity around architectural and strategic decisions.

  • Experience leading fully remote, geographically distributed engineering teams.

  • Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure (preferably AWS).

  • This role is remote.

  • Occasional travel to other store locations, conferences, and training events may be required

PREFERENCES

  • Familiarity with the healthcare industry or other highly regulated industries

  • Proficiency in one or more of: Python, TypeScript, Kotlin, or similar languages.

  • Familiarity with web technologies and architectures

  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, Kafka, containerization, and Terraform is a strong plus.

Pay Range: $180,000.00 - $220,000.00 a year

All job offers will be based on a candidate’s skills and prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data.  The position is also eligible for an annual bonus under the Labcorp Bonus Plan. Bonuses are payable based on corporate and/or business segment performance and are subject to individual performance modifiers.

Benefits: Employees regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week are eligible for comprehensive benefits including: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, STD/LTD, 401(k), Paid Time Off (PTO) or Flexible Time Off (FTO), Tuition Reimbursement and Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Casual, PRN & Part Time employees regularly scheduled to work less than 20 hours are eligible toparticipatein the 401(k) Plan only.
