About the team:
You will join a small, high-owner distributed team (Europe + Asia) that owns Goodnotes’ global cloud infrastructure serving 30M+ monthly active users and growing fast. We run a modern AWS-native, Kubernetes-first platform supporting consumer mobile apps, real-time collaboration, ML inference, and internal AI productivity tools. Expect high autonomy, direct impact on user-perceived reliability, and close collaboration with mobile, backend, ML, and internal-AI teams.
Please note that in certain locations, this role will be offered as a fixed-term contract.
About the role:
This is the role for you, if you’re excited to work on the things listed below:
Own reliability, performance, and cost for our multi-region AWS infrastructure (EKS, RDS Aurora, OpenSearch, S3, CloudFront, etc.) at 50M+ MAU scale.
Drive GitOps workflows (ArgoCD + Terraform/Atlantis/CDK) to make infrastructure changes safe, auditable, and fast.
Build and maintain golden-path CI/CD pipelines that let engineers ship to production multiple times per day with zero downtime.
Lead incident response, post-mortems, and chaos engineering experiments; target > 99.95% uptime while keeping costs under control.
Champion developer productivity: reduce toil, improve local development environments (devcontainers, etc.), and unblock teams with self-service tooling.
Mentor engineers across the company on infrastructure best practices and contribute to our Engineering Effectiveness roadmap.
The skills you will need to be successful in the above:
6+ years production experience running large-scale, user-facing systems (preferably consumer mobile or collaboration tools).
Deep expertise operating production EKS (or GKE/AKS) clusters at >10k pods scale – IRSA, Karpenter/cluster-autoscaler, service mesh (Istio or Linkerd), network policies, etc.
Mastery of GitOps tooling: ArgoCD (or Flux), Terraform/Terragrunt/Atmos, and cross-account deployment patterns.
Strong scripting/programming skills (Python/Go/Typescript preferred) for automation and tooling.
Experience with observability stacks that actually work at scale (Datadog or Prometheus + Thanos/Cortex, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Loki).
Solid grasp of cost optimization on AWS (Savings Plans, Karpenter, spot instances, S3 lifecycle policies) – we expect you to “own the bill”.
Proven track record reducing MTTR and toil through automation, runbooks, and SLO/SLI frameworks.
Comfortable with chaos engineering, blue-green/canary deployments, and zero-downtime database migrations.
Excellent communication – you can explain complex incidents to non-technical stakeholders and write blameless post-mortems that actually teach.
Passion for mentoring and raising the bar for the entire engineering organization.
Even if you don’t meet all the criteria listed above, we would still love to hear from you! Goodnotes places a lot of value on learning and development and will support your growth if needed. The interview process:
An introductory call with someone from our talent acquisition team. They want to hear more about your background, what you are looking for, and why you’d like to join Goodnotes
A short troubleshooting skills take home assignment
A live coding technical interview - skills in DevOps, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, containers, Linux, networking, and security, as well as your ability to clearly explain your thought process.
Engineering Manager interview - asking questions around your experience and the technical projects you have been involved in
Behavioural panel interview - answering questions around the Goodnotes company values and a short presentation on one of your passions
What’s in it for you:
Meaningful equity in a profitable tech startup
Budget for things like noise-cancelling headphones, setting up your home office, personal development, professional training, and health & wellness
Company-wide annual offsite (we met in Bali in 2024 and Istanbul and Seoul in 2025)
Flexible working hours and location. We expect this role to work 5 days a week, covering the weekend shift.
Medical insurance for you and your dependents
