EDB is seeking a Consultant/Senior Consultant to join our Professional Services team in EMEA. This is a dual-level role: candidates with 2–5 years of relevant experience will be considered at Consultant level, while those with 5–8+ years of DBA or data engineering experience will be considered at Senior Consultant level.

This is a customer-facing, technically hands-on role spanning two core disciplines: Postgres database consulting (migrations, HA/DR, performance tuning, DBA advisory) and modern data engineering (data pipelines, analytics platforms, AI/ML integration). The ideal candidate brings strength in one discipline and credible working knowledge of the other — enabling them to serve EDB's expanding EMEA customer base across traditional enterprise database workloads and next-generation AI and analytics use cases.

  • Assess existing customer deployments of Postgres and associated tools; develop recommendations and document required technical steps in clear runbooks.
  • Perform database migrations from Oracle, SQL Server and/or MySQL to PostgreSQL — schema conversion, data migration, PL/SQL remediation.
  • Design, implement and test High Availability configurations using PostgreSQL: EFM, Patroni and PGD (Active/Active) architectures.
  • Perform performance tuning for existing database deployments: queries, database configuration and OS-level optimisation.
  • Implement backup and recovery strategies (Barman, WAL archiving, PITR); perform upgrades and patching.
  • Evaluate customer security requirements and make recommendations covering authentication, encryption and access control.
  • Work with customers to upgrade applications to the latest version of Postgres and configure them to take advantage of new features.
  • Develop Professional Services proposals that address customer needs and targets; contribute to the PS pre-sales process.
  • Partner with clients to implement scalable data engineering pipelines, data models, data warehouses and analytics platforms from inception to deployment.
  • Set up and configure underlying data infrastructure — storage, compute clusters, cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks) — and identify performance tuning opportunities.
  • Develop advanced analytics models, dashboards and reporting frameworks that provide actionable business intelligence to client stakeholders.
  • Assist clients in integrating AI/ML capabilities, LLMs, RAG pipelines and predictive analytics into their existing data ecosystems and EDB Postgres AI platform.
  • Ensure high data quality, governance, security and performance optimisation across all client deliverables.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills — required at professional level.
  • A second European language is a significant advantage. Italian is particularly valued for current EMEA customer engagements; Spanish is also a strong asset.

What you will bring...

  • Consultant level: 2–5 years of experience in Data Engineering, Data Analytics, database consulting or a data-focused technical role.
  • Senior Consultant level: 5–8+ years of DBA-level experience with Postgres or Oracle, with at least 2 years in a professional consulting organisation or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, IT/Data Science or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proficiency in PostgreSQL — including administration, performance tuning, HA configuration and replication.
  • Experience with Oracle and/or SQL Server — particularly for migration source environments.
  • Strong SQL skills; familiarity with database design, application concepts and schema management for PostgreSQL and Oracle.
  • Linux system administration skills (Ubuntu, CentOS, Red Hat, Debian), including scripting (Bash, Python or equivalent).
  • Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure or GCP) and core modern data stack tools (e.g. Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, dbt).
  • Strong proficiency in Python or Scala, and advanced SQL. Experience building batch and/or real-time data pipelines.
  • Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, data modelling (Star/Snowflake schema) and data architecture principles.
  • Experience working with data science libraries (Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-Learn, PyTorch) and a working understanding of deploying or integrating AI/ML models.
What will give you an edge...
  • Experience with EDB-specific tooling: PEM (Postgres Enterprise Manager), Barman, EFM (Failover Manager), Migration Toolkit (MTK), LiveCompare.
  • Familiarity with PostgreSQL replication technologies: streaming replication, logical replication, BDR/PGD (Bidirectional Replication).
  • Experience with BI and data visualisation tools (Tableau, Power BI, Looker).
  • Familiarity with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines for data workloads (MLOps / DataOps).
  • Experience with RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) pipelines and vector database integration (pgvector).
  • Prior experience working in a Professional Services, IT consulting or advisory environment.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native Postgres deployment: CloudNativePG (CNPG), EDB Hybrid Manager, Trusted Postgres Architect (TPA).
  • Experience deploying Postgres in air-gapped, regulated or sovereign environments (financial services, government, healthcare).
