Proof of work

The team

Exchange Operations manages the day-to-day operation of Kraken’s spot and derivatives exchange, including all market configurations, admin tooling, and first-line incident response. The team operates critical internal systems such as Futures Admin and the Exchange Control Centre and works closely with Product and Engineering to ensure operational safety, accuracy, and scalability.

As an Exchange Operations Specialist, you will be responsible for executing and validating exchange configurations, monitoring platform health, and responding to incidents in real time. While you may have a spot or derivatives focus, you will be fully cross-trained across all market types and admin systems.

This role is hands-on, detail-oriented, and critical to maintaining exchange stability in a 24/7/365 environment. You don’t need to have done this exact role before – what matters is strong systems thinking, strong product knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to ramp quickly in a complex, high-impact environment.

The opportunity

Exchange Configuration & Market Operations

  • Execute and validate configuration changes across spot, futures, and margin product

  • Ensure all changes follow defined approval flows, version control, and documentation standards

Monitoring & Incident Response

  • Monitoring exchange health and responding to alerts in real time

  • Perform first-line incident triage and escalation to engineering when required

  • Support post-incident analysis, documentation and remediation tasks

Operational Readiness & Process Improvement

  • Perform structured readiness checks ahead of changes (configuration diffs, scenario testing)

  • Maintain and improve runbooks, SOPs, checklists, and operational documentation

  • Ideate new admin tools and automation, providing structured feedback to engineering during testing

  • Identify repetitive or error-prone workflows and propose automation opportunities

Cross-Functional Support

  • Support Compliance, Finance, Risk, and internal reporting workflows where automation is not yet available

  • Act as a liaison between Operations, Product, Engineering, and Client Support

Skills you should HODL

  • Working knowledge of spot, margin, and/or derivatives market mechanics, with the ability to deepen expertise quickly

  • Comfort working with technical systems and internal admin tools

  • Data skills (SQL required)

  • Ability to diagnose issues and communicate clearly under pressure

  • Willingness to participate in shared on-call rotations

Nice to haves

  • Proficiency with Python

  • Experience contributing to internal tooling or designing automation workflows

  • Familiarity with regulatory or compliance workflows in crypto or financial markets

Unless a specific application deadline is stated in the job posting, applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.

Please note, applicants are permitted to redact or remove information on their resume that identifies age, date of birth, or dates of attendance at or graduation from an educational institution.

We consider qualified applicants with criminal histories for employment on our team, assessing candidates in a manner consistent with the requirements of the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance.

Kraken is powered by people from around the world and we celebrate all Krakenites for their diverse talents, backgrounds, contributions and unique perspectives. We hire strictly based on merit, meaning we seek out the candidates with the right abilities, knowledge, and skills considered the most suitable for the job. We encourage you to apply for roles where you don't fully meet the listed requirements, especially if you're passionate or knowledgable about crypto!

As an equal opportunity employer, we don’t tolerate discrimination or harassment of any kind. Whether that’s based on race, ethnicity, age, gender identity, citizenship, religion, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy, veteran status or any other protected characteristic as outlined by federal, state or local laws.
