The Opportunity
Buildout is looking for our first Sales Engineer to help us bring more technical depth, consistency, and confidence to the way we sell. Buildout's platform supports commercial real estate professionals across the entire deal lifecycle, from prospecting and CRM to marketing, back-office operations, integrations, and AI-powered workflows.
We're looking for someone who can sit at the intersection of Sales and Product, understand that complexity, and translate it into a clear and compelling story for prospects and customers.
You'll primarily partner with our Account Executives on new business and expansion opportunities, stepping into deals where deeper product, technical, integration, or workflow expertise can help move an opportunity forward. You'll also support Account Managers when technical expertise can help us expand or retain an existing customer.
You'll have an opportunity to shape the SE function at Buildout. There isn't a fully built playbook waiting for you. You'll help us create it, from how and when Sales engages an SE, to stronger discovery methodologies, to consistent demo environments and talk tracks that make our team better.
This is a great opportunity for someone who loves the customer-facing side of technical work, knows how to connect product capabilities to business value, and is energized by building something from the ground up.
What You’ll Own
Partner with Account Executives on complex opportunities. Join the sales process when deeper product or technical expertise can help advance a deal, particularly during later-stage demos, technical validation, integration conversations, and enterprise opportunities.
Translate complexity into value. Understand a prospect's business, workflows, and technical needs and connect Buildout's capabilities to the outcomes that matter most to them.
Deliver compelling, tailored demos. Bring Buildout's product suite to life through demonstrations that reflect the prospect's use case rather than simply walking through features.
Guide stronger technical discovery. Help establish discovery methodologies and equip AEs to uncover the right technical and workflow requirements without requiring the SE to attend every call.
Own complex product and integration conversations. Serve as a trusted resource on topics such as integrations, APIs, reporting, commissions, workflows, security, and other technical considerations that arise during the sales process.
Build a better demo experience. Help create and maintain a consistent, reliable demo environment that allows our Sales team to tell the full Buildout story and demonstrate the customer journey across our product suite.
Partner closely across Buildout. Work with Product, Product Marketing, Customer Experience, Implementation, and Support to stay ahead of product changes and ensure Sales is equipped with accurate, compelling messaging and demos.
Help build the SE function. Establish the processes, resources, and ways of working that will allow Sales Engineering to scale as Buildout grows.
What Makes a Great Candidate
You make the complex feel simple. You can dig into integrations, workflows, APIs, and technical requirements without losing sight of why any of it matters to the customer. You know how to take something complicated and make it click for a business audience.
You sell the why, not just the how. You are technically fluent, but commercially minded. Your instinct is not just to answer the question or show that a feature exists. You want to understand the problem behind the question and connect what Buildout can do to why it matters for the customer.
You know how to tell a story through a demo. You're comfortable in front of customers, can read the room, and know the difference between a great product demo and a feature tour. You can adjust your approach for an end user, technical stakeholder, or executive.
You don't need a perfectly paved road. This is our first Sales Engineer role, which means some things will be messy and some things simply won't exist yet. You see that as an opportunity. You're proactive, resourceful, and comfortable figuring out what good should look like and then helping us build it.
You build the playbook when there isn't one. You are comfortable walking into something that is not perfectly defined, spotting what is missing, figuring out what good should look like, and then helping us build it.
You know where your time matters most. You'll be one person supporting a broad Sales organization, so good judgment is essential. You can recognize when your involvement could change the trajectory of a deal, when an AE just needs some coaching.
You likely also have:
3+ years of experience in a client-facing Sales Engineer role, ideally supporting a SaaS sales organization.
Strong presentation and discovery skills, with experience leading tailored product demonstrations for a range of audiences.
Experience partnering closely with Sales and cross-functional teams such as Product, Product Marketing, Customer Success, or Implementation.
Bonus points for experience with commercial real estate technology, Salesforce, APIs and integrations, AI-powered software, or similarly complex SaaS products.
We know there are great candidates who won’t check all of these boxes, and we also know you might bring important skills that we haven’t considered. If that’s you, don’t hesitate to apply and tell us about yourself.
