As Data Engineering Manager for our Patient Experience and Analytics Solution, you'll lead technical strategy, drive execution, and represent Data Engineering across the business. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll partner with your team to solve complex challenges, review critical implementations, and model engineering best practices. We're seeking a leader with experience building and operating large-scale data platforms, including real-time streaming (Kafka), batch ETL, data warehousing, CDC patterns, and high-volume analytical environments. Our mission-focused teams are empowered to solve meaningful problems, ship continuously, and improve oral care experiences for thousands of dental professionals and patients. Working within a 6-week operating cycle, you'll help balance innovation, technical excellence, product delivery, and team growth. This position is remote within the United States with up to 10% travel as needed. What You Will Do
Lead and mentor engineering teams while remaining hands-on in driving technical execution and the delivery of market-leading solutions that improve the lives of Henry Schein One users and their patients
Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing engineers and engineering leaders, fostering a culture of growth, accountability, and continuous improvement
Coach and support team leaders to successfully deliver on team objectives, commitments, and strategic priorities
Identify and remove delivery roadblocks, enabling teams to practice continuous delivery and scale effectively
Partner with teams to ensure products are secure, compliant, reliable, and operationally sound
Collaborate with Product and senior leadership to shape product vision, strategy, and execution plans
Build strong cross-functional relationships and influence stakeholders to drive the best possible customer and user experience
Advance engineering processes, practices, and organizational maturity to support continued growth and scalability
Influence technical and operational decisions across teams, helping drive consistency, innovation, and engineering excellence

Cloud: AWS, Serverless Architecture, CloudFormation, Docker
Big Data: Kafka, Spark, PySpark
DevOps & Tools: Jira, Gitlab, Selenium, Dynatrace
AI/ML technologies: LLMs, RAG, prompt engineering, agentic frameworks, model evaluation and monitoring, responsible AI, AI-assisted developer tools, and AI-DLC
What We Are Looking For
7+ years of progressive software/database and data solution development experience
Proven ability to balance hands-on technical delivery with people leadership, including mentoring, coaching, developing talent, managing performance, and leading teams in a player-coach capacity
Experience designing and supporting large-scale data pipelines, integrations, APIs, and high-volume data processing environments
Solid understanding of data architecture, data movement patterns, and scalable system design
Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills
Self-motivated, proactive, and adaptable with a sense of ownership and accountability
Demonstrates empathy, authenticity, curiosity, and courage in leadership and decision-making
What Will Set You Apart
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
AWS Certified Data Engineer
The posted range for this position is $150,000 - $165,000, which is the expected starting salary range for an employee who is new to the role to fully proficient in the role. Many factors go into determining employee pay within the posted range including prior experience, current skills, location/labor market, internal equity, etc. This position is eligible for a bonus target not reflected in the range.
