Worlds Untold is seeking a Lead VFX Artist with a creative and collaborative spirit, who is passionate about pushing the boundaries of visual effects to enhance storytelling and immersive gameplay.
As a Lead VFX Artist, you will be responsible for designing and implementing real-time high-quality visual effects that enhance the player experience. You will work closely with the art, engineering and design teams to create visually compelling and technically proficient effects that align with the artistic vision of our projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, conceptualize, create, and implement high-quality real-time visual effects using Unreal Engine
Collaborate with the art, engineering and design teams to understand and execute the visual goals of the project
Define our quality expectations Ensure quality are met throughout the different production phases
Optimize effects for performance without sacrificing visual quality
Develop and maintain VFX pipelines and workflows using basic project management skills to ensure efficient production
Stay updated with industry trends and techniques to continually enhance the studio's VFX capabilities
Mentor and provide feedback to junior VFX artists to help them grow their skills
Establish constructive feedback loops with the VFX team (to include internal team, independent contractors, and outsource teams), maintaining a consistent style and quality level, fostering a curious, collaborative, creative and safe environment
Troubleshoot and solve technical VFX issues in collaboration with the engineering team
Document VFX processes and techniques for future reference and training
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Visual Effects, Animation, Computer Graphics, or a related field, or equivalent experience
Strong proficiency in Unreal Engine, particularly with its particle systems and shader creation
Excellent understanding of advanced real-time VFX techniques and principles using a physically based renderer
Proficient in 3D math, expressions and scripting in a modern VFX pipeline targeting console hardware
Proficiency in industry-standard VFX tools such as Houdini, Maya, or After Effects
Strong artistic sense with a keen eye for detail, color, composition, and timing
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex VFX issues
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with other game engines and proprietary VFX tools
Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python or Unreal Engine's Blueprint
Experience with performance optimization techniques for VFX
Understanding of PBR (Physically Based Rendering) and how it applies to VFX
Experience in leading VFX projects or teams
Passion for gaming and a strong understanding of how VFX can enhance gameplay experiences

Canada: $136,000 - $168,000 CAD
United States: $203,000 - $259,000 USD
