About the team:

Join Goodnotes as our Domain Lead, Quality Engineer and operate as the strategic owner for your designated business vertical. This team is focused on embedding quality into the product development lifecycle. You will be part of the Quality Engineering function working across your domain's product teams to drive our Shift-Left Engineering transformation, ensuring quality is a shared responsibility from planning to release.

In this high-impact role, you will own the delivery and quality of the features released within your domain. You won't just run tests; you will manage, mentor, and strategically enforce the standards required to prevent defects before code is even written. Operating at the intersection of our Domain and Product squad, you will drive a strategy centered on API contract testing, performance engineering, and “quality-as-code” within our CI/CD pipelines.

About the role:

We are looking for a leader who views Quality Engineering as an enabler of speed. If you are passionate about building scalable automation frameworks and influencing architecture from day one, this is your opportunity to set the standard for a world-class engineering team.

This is the role for you, if you’re excited to work on the things listed below:

1. Strategic Leadership & Quality Ownership (50%)

  • Driving Shared Quality: Serve as the primary quality partner to EMs and PMs. You are jointly responsible for the delivery of testing and the overall quality of the features released within your domain. You will drive the adoption of Testable Design and Shift‑Left practices within the product teams.

  • Domain Quality Strategy: Define and execute the quality strategy for your domain (e.g., Platform stability, AI accuracy, iOS Foundation performance), ensuring alignment with the overall company QE transformation roadmap.

  • Risk & Prioritisation: Lead collaborative risk assessment with PMs and EMs, ensuring testing effort is prioritised based on business impact, user criticality, and data loss potential.

  • Standards Enforcement: Act as the domain champion for new QE standards, collaborating with the QE Architect to ensure mandatory quality gates and standardised frameworks are adopted and maintained by your team.

  • Cross‑Domain Alignment: Actively participate in the weekly Quality Huddle with other Domain Leads to identify and mitigate cross‑cutting risks and dependencies (e.g., changes in Platform sync affecting iOS Foundation stability).

  • Partner Management: Own the effective integration and utilisation of embedded partner resources (TMA/HTEC) within your domain, treating them as full team collaborators and moving away from a ticketing‑based execution model.

  • Getting Your Hands Dirty: This is not a ‘hands off’ role, you will be expected to contribute to the day to day testing in the product teams within your domain. You may not work on the critical path, but you will be actively involved in the testing activities.

2. People Management & Development (50%)

  • Line Management: Provide direct line management, mentorship, and career development coaching for the Quality Engineers within your squad, reducing the administrative overhead on senior QE management.

  • Recruitment & Mentorship: Drive the hiring and onboarding of new QE talent within your domain, and actively coach engineers on modern QE practices (e.g., shift‑left, testable design).

  • Performance and Growth: Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and calibration, ensuring the growth goals of your team align with the technical needs and business priorities of the domain.

The skills you will need to be successful in the above:

  • Strong Technical Domain Knowledge: Proven experience (5+ years) working within complex software domains relevant to Goodnotes (e.g., large‑scale cloud synchronisation, low‑level iOS/macOS development, high‑volume monetisation/licensing systems).

  • Hands‑on QE Expertise: Demonstrated ability to drive technical quality, including designing complex test plans, hands‑on automation scripting, and troubleshooting infrastructure issues.

  • Leadership Experience: Prior experience in line management, mentorship, or team leadership, with a passion for developing technical talent.

  • Strategic Communication & Partnership: Demonstrated success working closely with Engineering Managers and Product Managers to negotiate scope, define quality ownership, and influence development practices within product teams.

  • Systemic Thinking: A history of identifying systemic flaws (e.g., flaky tests, communication gaps) and proposing long‑term process or architectural solutions rather than just reporting bugs.

Even if you don’t meet all the criteria listed above, we would still love to hear from you! GoodNotes places a lot of value on learning and development and will support your growth if needed.

The interview process:

  • An introductory call with someone from our talent acquisition team. They want to hear more about your background, what you are looking for, and why you’d like to join Goodnotes

  • A short take-home assessment

  • Role-specific interviews with the hiring team where we find out your knowledge and experience relevant to the role. You are also encouraged to ask any technical questions you may have

  • A one-hour call with your hiring manager. This is the person who will be managing you day to day, working on your growth and development with you as well as support you throughout your career at Goodnotes

  • A one-hour call with 2-3 stakeholders from cross-functioning team you’d work closely with

  • AI literacy interview to find out your understanding of AI and how you’ve incorporated them into your personal and/or professional life

What’s in it for you:

  • Meaningful equity in a profitable tech-startup

  • Budget for things like noise-cancelling headphones, setting up your home office, personal development, professional training, and health & wellness

  • Sponsored visits to our Hong Kong or London office

  • Company-wide annual offsite

  • Flexible working hours and location

  • Medical insurance for you and your dependents
