Intermediate Development Engineer

All from the trusted partner that pioneered and continues to lead enterprise adoption and use of open source software.As a Development Engineer on our team, you will be helping us build our products across multiple platforms.Our day to day work practices are centered around GitHub, pull requests, code review, CI for testing, and agile development with Jira as our project management tool. We’re always looking to improve our practices and we expect you to help us to do so.Our team is scattered around the US and Canada, so we coordinate with each other and the rest of the company using Slack for chat, Zoom for video calls and screen sharing, Pivotal Tracker, and Google Drive.We like to use open source software whenever possible, and we also like to contribute back to the open source ecosystem. We embrace open sourcing both libraries and tools developed in-house as long as those are not mission-critical code. Key Responsibilities
Own & Drive Your Work
Complete assigned tasks independently, ensuring high-quality, well-documented, and tested solutions.
Identify unclear or incomplete work, ensuring that it has an appropriate owner and is actionable.
Build & Package Management
Manage packaging updates with an emphasis on reliability and automation.
Contribute to continuous improvements in the build pipeline and deployment process.
Maintenance & Growth
Maintain and improve package stability through proactive monitoring and issue resolution.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
4+ years of experience
High Proficiency in at least one of the following language ecosystems (Go, Dotnet, Rust, C#, Java, JavaScript). And desire to learn other languages
Familiarity with the Standards and practices of the language ecosystem ( How are dependencies and requirements described? What versions are LTS? How are releases managed? What are Common environment configurations?)
Compiling language modules from a specified language ecosystem.
Runtime testing language modules from a specified language ecosystem.
Computer Science Degree or equivalent
Experience with software build systems, CI/CD pipelines, or automated deployment tools.
Low level understanding of Linux binaries
Experience with compiling code, and linking.
Ability to independently manage tasks and identify gaps in work, ensuring alignment with broader goals.
Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on risk assessment and long-term platform reliability.
Clear and effective communication—able to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
A proactive and collaborative approach, volunteering to help teammates and fostering a culture of knowledge sharing.
A curiosity-driven mindset, capable of defining and executing experiments to improve processes.
Assets
Experience working on a build system.
Agile processes, including breaking large projects up into smaller stories, estimation, working in branches (GitHub Flow), code review, and CI.
C or C++ code and debugging compiler issues across platforms.
Experience writing Python code.
Experience developing tools, or automating tasks.
Experience writing Dockerfiles.
Java, C-Sharp, JavaScript, Go, R, Perl, Python, Tcl, or Ruby, especially an understanding of their respective language communities and their toolchains.
Build tools such as make, autotools, cmake, meson, bazel, etc.
Security hardening and remediation.
