Consumers increasingly want to know whether the brands they trust are genuinely 'sustainable' - produced under acceptable social, economic, and environmental practices. In response, many companies have set targets to become 100% sustainable. But traditional certification and verification approaches struggle to reach farmers who are too small, too remote, or too informally organized to be captured by existing systems.

Enveritas (www.enveritas.org) builds solutions for smallholder coffee farmers who fall outside the reach of existing sustainability certification and verification programs. We've developed a rigorous, scalable, and transparent verification method built specifically for this underserved space — and it's the backbone of our Responsible Sourcing platform, which helps companies meet their sustainability targets by directing investment to where it's needed most.

About the Role

Enveritas is looking for a Head of Africa to join our global team and lead our operations across the region. You'll be responsible for ensuring our operations run smoothly and consistently, driving the development and adoption of new operational products, and managing the teams and relationships that keep our work credible and effective on the ground.

What You'll Do

Operations Leadership

• Ensure smooth, effective operations across African countries of operations.

• Standardize operating procedures across African countries to ensure consistency and scalability. 

• Lead the development of new operational products and drive their successful adoption across markets

• Develop and execute strategies to optimize operational costs

Team & Program Management

• Manage the various African teams, including budgets, staffing and operational processes. 

• Lead the  Machine Labelling Operations team, including budgets, performance and operational workflows. 

• Manage the regional team overseeing tailored client deliverables, including annual country summaries and key issue prioritization across all countries

• Manage the Operations team, providing leadership to streamline processes, improve efficiency, maintain operational excellence, oversee contract review, and manage global coverage data and client deliverables

Stakeholder & Relationship Management

• Manage key relationships with core supply chain partners.

• Represent Enveritas to external stakeholders, regional authorities, ensuring the organization delivers on its mission

Other

• Support additional projects and additional activities as needed

Qualifications & Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in operations management, with at least 3+ years in a senior leadership role overseeing multi-country or multi-team operations

• Experience in the coffee, agriculture, sustainability, or certification/verification sector strongly preferred

• Proven track record managing and developing teams across multiple functions (operations, project management, business operations)

• Experience working across multiple African countries or markets, with strong cultural and contextual fluency across the region

• Demonstrated ability to standardize processes and drive adoption of new products or systems across diverse teams and geographies

• Strong track record in stakeholder management, ideally including client relationships with corporates, NGOs, or supply chain partners

• Experience with budget management and P&L or cost/revenue accountability

• Familiarity with survey methodology, data standards, or quality assurance processes is a plus

• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to represent the organization credibly to external stakeholders

• Willingness to travel regularly within Africa (and internationally as needed) | 10 - 20%

• Fluency in English required; proficiency in French, Portuguese, Swahili, or other regionally relevant languages is a strong plus

• Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in a relevant field (business, international development, agriculture, sustainability) a plus
