Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

Stripe’s infrastructure powers businesses all over the world. We process payments, run marketplaces, detect fraud, help entrepreneurs start an internet business from anywhere in the world, build world-class developer-friendly APIs, and more.

As an engineer on the Efficiency team, you'll contribute to a high-performing team focused on optimizing our cloud use and the overall performance of our systems and services. You'll work cross-functionally to analyze, attribute, understand, and predict our long-term cloud infrastructure usage, and devise cost optimization strategies.  Your work will directly facilitate improvement and growth, making a significant impact on Stripe's operational efficacy.

What you’ll do

As a full-stack engineer on our team, you'll play a critical role in developing and improving the products and tools used by our finance and engineering teams to optimize our cloud utilization. Our work directly and measurably impacts the productivity and satisfaction of Stripe's engineers. Striving for greater efficiency within Stripe's platforms, without compromising on performance, latency, or reliability, presents an exciting challenge.

We seek individuals with a strong passion for performance and efficiency, accompanied by an inquisitive mindset. We welcome you to be part of this transformative journey.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a wide range of systems, processes and technologies to own and solve problems from end-to-end.

  • Design, build, and maintain instrumentation, data pipelines to support data driven decision making.

  • Work across teams at Stripe to help define and implement projects which drive efficient utilization of our cloud infrastructure.

  • Partner closely with engineering, product, and design leadership to build our product user experience.

  • Uphold our high engineering standards and bring consistency to the many codebases and processes you will encounter.

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • At least 4 years of engineering experience shipping high quality products with an entrepreneurial mindset

  • Hands-on experience with relevant programming languages and big data technologies (e.g., Python, Scala, Java, Airflow, Hadoop, Spark)

  • Experience working with cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure)

  • You work very well cross-functionally, and are able to think rigorously and make hard decisions and tradeoffs.

  • You have great product taste and a track record of taking complex problems and solving them elegantly.

  • You are capable of working in ambiguous fast-moving environments and have a curiosity to learn the domain to a deep level.

  • You thrive on a high level of autonomy and responsibility.
