Forward-Deployed Engineer (FDE)

We are OpenHands, an open-source AI platform that empowers engineering teams to accelerate development, automate workflows, and integrate intelligent coding assistance into real-world software delivery.

As a Forward-Deployed Engineer, youll partner directly with customers to deploy OpenHands, build integrations, and shape how AI-assisted development is used in production. Youll operate as both a hands-on engineer and a trusted technical advisor, turning field insights into product improvements that help developers everywhere move faster.

What Youll Do

• Partner with customers to understand their workflows and goals

• Lead onboarding, proofs of concept, and production deployments

• Build and maintain integrations, plugins, and tools that extend OpenHands

• Translate complex concepts into clear guidance for teams new to agents or agentic workflows

• Debug issues across services, containers, networks, and CI/CD to unblock customers quickly

• Capture patterns and gaps from the field to inform Product and Engineering roadmaps

• Produce practical artifacts that scale adoption: demos, docs, and playbooks

What You Bring

• 5+ years of software engineering or customer-facing technical experience

• Proficiency in Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript

• Experience deploying to cloud environments and running containerized workloads (Docker; Kubernetes or equivalent)

• Direct experience working with customers or technical stakeholders

• Proven ability to make technical topics accessible for non-technical stakeholders and first-time AI users

• Empathy for users learning AI-powered tools and creativity in helping them succeed

• Comfort operating autonomously in fast-moving, ambiguous environments

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git-based workflows, and developer tooling

• Familiarity with AI dev tools (OpenHands, Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor) a plus

• Bonus: experience in field engineering, pre-sales, or developer relations
