Engineering Manager - User Authentication (Growth)

The team is a central part of our product and ensures that new users in our platform have a meaningful experience. We are seeking a data-driven Engineering Manager to lead a team within the Growth organization. This team will focus on enhancing our user conversion and engagement flows with the goal of helping users discover Reddit faster.

The successful candidate will be passionate about solving both user and business problems, thrive in ambiguity, and enjoy brainstorming, experimentation, and iteration. They will collaborate closely with stakeholders across engineering, product, user acquisition, and leadership to develop and implement impactful solutions.

What You'll Do

• Lead and mentor a team of seasoned mobile and backend engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment that promotes professional growth.

• Devise and implement comprehensive user experience strategies tailored to diverse user cohorts, with the goal of optimizing user conversion and retention.

• Champion a culture of innovation and experimentation, where team members are encouraged to explore, test, and refine novel ideas.

• Navigate ambiguity with confidence, utilizing data-driven insights to guide the team towards successful outcomes.

• Work in close partnership with Product, Data, Design and ML teams to ensure effective leadership, alignment with broader organizational objectives, and maximum impact

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related quantitative field.

• 8+ years of industry experience, including 2+ years managing a team of engineers with varied skill levels, including backend, frontend and mobile engineers.

• Strong background in software engineering, preferably in backend systems and/or platforms.

• Proficiency in at least one programming language (Java, Go, Python) and experience with distributed systems.

• Proven ability to brainstorm and implement experimental ideas to drive growth.

• Exceptional leadership, team management, communication, and collaboration skills.

• Experience in engineering management or technical leadership roles, preferably in high-growth tech companies.

Preferred Qualifications

• Domain experience on authentication and authorization systems, including SSO (Single Sign On), Passkeys, Phone Auth.

In addition to base salary, this job is eligible to receive equity in the form of restricted stock units, and depending on the position offered, it may also be eligible to receive a commission. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including, skills, depth of work experience and relevant licenses/credentials, and may vary from the amounts listed below.

The base pay range for this position is:

$217,000—$303,900 USD
