Function: Marketing (Brand) • Reports to: Senior Director, Product Marketing & Brand
The Company
OnBoard builds the software that boards of directors run on — the AI-forward platform for preparing, running, and following up on the meetings where organizations make their biggest decisions. Thousands of boards start every meeting with us, and with eScribe we do the same for city councils and government bodies across North America.
The Opportunity
We are expanding our markets, into segments held by the biggest names in the space. We are David walking into a field of Goliaths — and we like our odds, because we are coming in with momentum, a product buyers get excited about, and a level of innovation incumbents can't match.
Brand is how we press that advantage. The mandate for this role is to expand our presence and grow the perception of OnBoard as the place to be for board management — the solution directors recommend to the boards they join and the boards their peers sit on. In a market where buyers trust the people sitting next to them at the table, peer perception is a growth engine, and Brand's job is to earn and amplify it.
The buyer journey itself is changing, too. More of it now runs through AI layers — buyers ask an LLM about their options before they ever visit a website. We see Brand as having a vital place in that new journey: human recommendations and perception matter as much as what the models say about us and who we're for, and this role shapes both.
The Role
The Director of Brand reports to the Senior Director of Product Marketing & Brand and owns brand strategy, narrative, and creative expression for both OnBoard and eScribe. You will shape what the brands stand for and how they show up in-market, then drive that expression across our channels.
At its core, the role demands a strategist and a storyteller — someone who thinks a few steps ahead, someone who spots the seed of a great story and turns it into differentiated narratives for the brand. You are accountable for measurable brand outcomes: awareness, engagement, share of voice, and thought leadership reach that support the company's expansion into new markets.
Key Outcomes
This is what success looks like. How you get there is largely up to you — that's why we're hiring a director.
Everyone speaks the same language, we look like one company, and the market responds. You will shape a brand strategy, story, and visual and verbal identity for OnBoard and eScribe that creates excitement and alignment. The real test is external: the market responds and starts mimicking our language back to us.
The markets we're expanding into know who we are before we ever call them. As we enter new segments, awareness, credibility, and preference with those buyers become key for brand to own. You will figure out how the company earns that — through research into how these buyers discover and judge vendors, and through the strategies and tactical programs that put us out in front.
Directors bring us with them. The strongest signal a brand in this market can earn is a director telling a fellow board, 'you should be on OnBoard.' You will build the perception and the peer-to-peer presence that make OnBoard the platform directors recommend to the boards they join and the boards their peers sit on.
Our executives are voices the industry follows. Our leaders have stories worth hearing. Your team will shape that — building their presence on LinkedIn and beyond, and extending it through webinars, video, bylines, and stages, with audience growth you can point to.
We show up in the coverage — and the AI answers — that shape buyer perception. Because more of the buyer journey now runs through AI layers, you will partner with our SEO and GEO team to evaluate and iterate what LLMs say about our brand and who we’re for — so when a buyer asks an LLM about board management, not only do we show up, the right brand narrative appears, too.
The stories worth telling get found, and get told everywhere. Customer outcomes, product moments, research, market shifts — the raw material is all around us. You will own Brand's content strategy inside the marketing team's shared roadmap and turn that raw material into narratives that carry across channels and formats.
The work Brand takes on is the work worth doing. You own intake, prioritization, and the brand budget. That means pressure-testing requests against goals, outcomes, and tradeoffs — and having the judgment and the standing to reshape or decline work that won't return value.
Results get reported in business terms, and the team gets better every quarter. You work with your leaders to establish KPIs and baselines, and show up in leadership forums with a clear point of view and numbers behind it. And you will coach your people through clear goals, honest feedback, and stretch assignments.
Who You Are
- You are a storyteller before you are anything else. You spot the seed of a great story in a customer call, a product release, or a stray data point, pick up threads from across the business, and weave them into narratives that work in a keynote, a LinkedIn post, and a press pitch. This goes well beyond strong writing — it is the talent this role is built around.
- You can't imagine working without AI anymore. You use AI-led workflows for brand and content work every day, you are comfortable inside an AI-first production system, and you get genuinely excited about what agentic workflows make possible for a brand team.
- You have taken a brand into new markets and can tell us exactly what changed. You have built brand presence that helped a B2B company expand — into new segments, new buyers, or new categories — and you can walk us through the before, the after, and what you would do differently.
- You have made executives into voices people follow. You have grown leaders' platforms on LinkedIn or similar channels and can show the audience and engagement curves to prove it.
- You think in content strategy not just content calendars. You have set content direction across teams and tied it to business outcomes, and you understand how AI-driven discovery (GEO) is rewriting the rules of being found.
- You say no when needed and with grace. Brand and Content teams face a constant list of “what if we did this” requests. You pressure-test requests against goals, risks, and tradeoffs, and you decline or reshape work that won't return value — without burning the relationship.
- You are an energizer. You bring pace and optimism to a fast-moving, PE-backed environment where brand has to show its contribution to growth — and you make people want to work with your team.
