Cloud Engineer
About the Role
MetroSys is seeking a versatile and highly skilled Cloud Engineer to support cloud operations and ongoing infrastructure modernization efforts. This role is Azure-focused, but the ideal candidate will be adaptable across a wide range of cloud platforms, tools, and technologies. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining secure, scalable, and cost-efficient cloud infrastructure, while collaborating with development and operations teams to ensure high performance and reliability.
This is a fully remote role, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere in the U.S., with the expectation of occasional collaboration across multiple time zones.
Key Responsibilities
Design, deploy, and maintain cloud infrastructure with a strong focus on Microsoft Azure services (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).
Collaborate with DevOps and development teams to support application modernization, containerization, and deployment pipelines.
Implement cloud governance and security best practices, including identity management, access control, and compliance.
Monitor and optimize performance, availability, and cost efficiency of cloud environments.
Support multi-cloud initiatives, integrating Azure with AWS, GCP, and other platforms as needed.
Troubleshoot and resolve cloud infrastructure issues, providing escalation support when required.
Document architectures, policies, and procedures for operational excellence and knowledge sharing.
Qualifications
35+ years of experience as a Cloud Engineer, Systems Engineer, or related role.
Strong hands-on expertise with Microsoft Azure services (Azure AD, Azure Networking, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Storage, Virtual Machines, App Services, Functions, etc.).
Familiarity with hybrid and multi-cloud environments (AWS, GCP, VMware, etc.).
Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, ARM templates, Bicep, or similar).
Solid background in networking, security, and identity management in the cloud.
Scripting/automation experience (PowerShell, Python, Bash).
Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or equivalent).
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently in a remote environment.
Preferred Skills
Certifications such as Azure Administrator Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Azure DevOps Engineer Expert.
Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm).
Exposure to cloud cost optimization tools and practices.
Familiarity with security frameworks (NIST, ISO 27001, CIS benchmarks, HIPAA, etc.).
