Sharing Excess
Sharing Excess is a food rescue organization working to reduce food waste and improve access to nutritious food for communities in need. The organization partners with grocery stores, wholesalers, farmers, food producers, and other businesses to recover surplus food and redirect it to food banks and community organizations.
Founded in 2018 as a college project, Sharing Excess has grown into one of the fastest-growing food rescue organizations in the United States. Through its national network of food banks and community partners, the organization distributes nearly 2 million pounds of food each week and approximately 100 million pounds annually.
Sharing Excess combines technology, data-driven logistics, and operational expertise to make food recovery faster, more efficient, and more scalable. Its approach helps businesses redirect excess food that might otherwise go to waste while supporting organizations working to address food insecurity.
With the agility of a technology-driven startup and the community focus of a grassroots movement, Sharing Excess is working to build a more sustainable and efficient food system. By connecting food suppliers with organizations that serve people in need, the company is helping create a future where more surplus food is recovered, shared, and put to meaningful use rather than wasted.
