Twenty years ago, this meant building a browser and protecting the open web. Today, it also includes making sure AI and data driven technology is more trustworthy. In order to focus on places where Mozilla can impact the next era of our work, we are increasingly working on the topic of trustworthy AI. For us, this means especially two things: human agency is a core part of how AI is built and integrated, and corporate accountability is real and enforced.

The Web Platforms team is an agile team of designers and developers that is tasked with designing, building, maintaining, and optimizing the tools, websites, and brand the organization uses to further its mission. This includes the https://foundation.mozilla.org/ website, various micro-sites such as https://privacynotincluded.org/, https://www.mozillafestival.org/, and https://donate.mozilla.org/, our CMS platforms, and more.

You will work closely with our internal team of other UX/UI Designers, a visual designer, developers, content creators, fundraisers, and advocacy campaigners. You bring industry thoughtful processes to achieve high quality results, care deeply and advocate for our users and audience, and help program staff bring their offerings to this audience. You make informed design decisions and track the impact of your work through research, data and testing and you iterate on your designs accordingly. This role will be involved in the entire product development lifecycle including the discovery, design, development, and maintenance of new and existing website features.

  • A portfolio is required with your application.

Here are some projects you'll likely work on in your first 6 months:

This role will help refresh the information architecture and user flows on our website, expand and maintain our Figma design system, and work closely with collaborators to design compelling landing pages for their initiatives. You will gain experience in user research, testing, prototyping, working in a collaborative environment, perfecting your Figma skills, and creating sustainable processes and systems.

As a UX/UI Designer at Mozilla, you will…

  • Implement projects (big and small) from start to finish

  • Plan and coordinate tasks

  • Seek out requirements and feedback from collaborators

  • Research, analyze, and strategize solutions

  • Create sketches, wireframes, high-fidelity web designs, and prototypes

  • Perform user research and track analytics

  • Work directly with engineers

  • Advocate for our users and their experiences and have the ability to help internal collaborators engage with their audience.

Your Professional Profile: You have…

  • A passion for user-centered design, collaborative work, and problem solving.

  • Ability to balance and prioritize a thoughtful design process within deadlines in order to drive the most impact.

  • A strong portfolio of design work showing a talent for creating impactful design solutions, high accessibility standards, and responsive designs.

  • An eye for design

    • Ability to follow style guides, ensure visual and brand consistency, and collaborate to iterate and build upon our brand and design system.

    • Strong digital typography and layout skills.

    • Ability to produce in different styles and approaches depending on the project.

    • Ensure that racial justice and equity is visually represented in assets and that assets represent a broad range of global experiences.

  • Data driven design

    • Ability to measure the impact of your designs.

    • Ability to run small user research tests (interviews, surveys, un-moderated tests).

    • Experience reading and interpreting Google Analytics.

  • Tools

    • An extensive knowledge of Figma and how to use its more advanced features.

    • Some experience using tools such as UserTesting, Github, Jira, Illustrator and Photoshop.

  • Collaborative environment

    • Ability to communicate efficiently and experience collaborating across cross-functional teams, partnering regularly with content creators, developers, campaigners and other collaborators.

    • Effectively give and receive constructive feedback among your design peers, engineers, and collaborators in an open, collaborative, and transparent manner.

We Are Excited To See Any Additional Experience With:
