Technical Program Manager - PMO
An overview of this role
We're looking for a Technical Program Manager to manage and contribute to cross functional initiatives led by the Engineering division of GitLab. As a member of the Research and Development (R&D) organization, you’ll contribute directly to the priorities of the Engineering Division and collaborate closely with the Engineering Leadership team across all levels. This individual will be responsible for leading key cross functional initiatives across the company focused primarily on the Engineering Division. Work will span from small self-led projects to managing larger initiatives that span contributions from nearly every stage of GitLab. What you’ll do
Lead 1-3 strategic technical programs across multiple engineering teams and product stages simultaneously
Partner with key stakeholders to align on goals, timelines, and delivery milestones
Own end-to-end program planning and execution, from initial scoping through delivery and retrospectives
Drive asynchronous communication using GitLab issues, epics, and handbook documentation to coordinate work across global time zones
Identify and resolve blockers that prevent teams from making progress, escalating when necessary
Facilitate working group meetings and async discussions to drive decision-making and maintain momentum
Track program health using metrics, dashboards, and status updates to provide visibility to stakeholders
Contribute to building TPM best practices by documenting processes in the handbook and improving how R&D programs run

What you’ll bring
2-4 years experience in technical program management, project management, software engineering, or related technical roles
Understanding of software development lifecycle and Agile methodologies, including how engineering teams operate
Excellent written communication skills for async collaboration in a handbook-first environment
Ability to work independently and self-direct in a fully remote setting with minimal supervision
Problem-solving mindset with ability to navigate ambiguity and find creative solutions
Eagerness to learn and iterate quickly, adapting your approach based on feedback
Previous experience working remotely in a distributed organization
Experience coordinating programs across multiple teams or departments
Familiarity with DevOps tools, CI/CD pipelines, or GitLab's platform (preferred)
