Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence are central to accelerating Netflix’s business and elevating the experience for members. ML/AI are being used throughout the company, from personalization to business planning to operations optimization. The Machine Learning Platform (MLP) is responsible for enabling new technological development at Netflix and improving researchers’ and engineers’ productivity. MLP covers all phases of machine learning development at Netflix, including data processing, training, evaluation, deployment and operations.

We are looking for a product-minded Technical Program Manager who’s passionate about maximizing ML engineer and research productivity. You’ll drive the processes and tracking that help our teams and partners execute efficiently. You’ll be a steward for our internal measurement and goal tracking. And, you’ll coordinate high-profile projects in partnership with Product Managers and Engineering Leaders throughout Netflix.

Excellent candidates have deep experience in program, project or product management for developer platforms. They demonstrate initiative, especially in ambiguous areas with unclear ownership. They’ll show uncanny communication skills and a strong ability to bring different teams to consensus.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Drive the execution of cross-functional ML Platform initiatives at Netflix across the various stakeholders for MLP, from Consumer Engineering, Algorithms Engineering, Studio and Content engineering and Data Science organizations

  • Establish and follow-through on regular measurement of success metrics like adoption and productivity

  • Define and drive effective execution processes on the ML Platform team

  • Manage and oversee operations including SLA definition & measurement, cost optimization, and data governance

  • Apply strong technical, organizational, and communication skills to devise sound technical approaches to abstract goals.

  • Establish an overall plan for numerous teams to rally around and successfully launch new productivity improvements for Netflix engineers

  • Own regular communication to senior Netflix management as well as broad communication to MLP consumers at Netflix

  • Identify and mitigate risks to execution in large-scale projects

Skills and Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in product management, technical program management, software engineering, or leading software development projects.

  • Extensive experience working and innovating on developer platforms, especially those for machine learning

  • Knowledge and experience in defining, measuring, and improving developer productivity

  • Demonstrated initiative in clarifying ambiguous projects and driving them to completion

  • Strong technical background for close collaboration with engineers and ML practitioners both working on and consuming the platform.

  • At minimum, familiarity with Big Data technologies like Spark (and, preferably, with ML technologies like Tensorflow / PyTorch). Candidates should also have strong familiarity with cloud computing environments & tech (e.g. AWS, GCP, Azure)

  • Mastery of development process management (e.g. Agile, Scrum) and the related tools (e.g. Jira)

  • Demonstrated leadership experience working effectively with engineers, data scientists, ML practitioners, Product Managers, etc. 

  • Excellent written communication skills and ability to present technical content to non-technical audiences. Ability to partner with different functions to ensure that your solutions drive real business impact.

  • Strategic thinking and ability to incorporate larger business context into algorithm and product development.

  • Experience in identifying tradeoffs, surfacing needs for clarity, and driving decision-making

Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $240,000 - $725,000

Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits. We also offer paid leave of absence programs.  Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off to be used for vacation, holidays, and sick paid time off.
