Job Summary:

The Technical Product Owner / Business Analyst supports Nextech's reporting, analytics, and data platform initiatives by translating product direction into clear, detailed, and engineering-ready requirements. This role serves as a delivery-focused partners with Product Management, Data Engineering, Engineering, QA, Design, Support, Implementation, and Commercial stakeholders.

This is a detail-oriented execution role. The Technical Product Owner / Business Analyst is responsible for breaking down Director-owned epics into well-defined data and user stories, acceptance criteria, workflow documentation, data mappings, report specifications, and validation scenarios that delivery teams can execute without ambiguity. The ideal candidate combines business analysis discipline, technical fluency, healthcare technology awareness, and strong written communication.

This role is especially important in data-centric product areas where reporting accuracy, field definitions, transformation logic, lineage, and frontend behavior must be clearly documented before engineering begins work. The person in this role helps reduce rework, improve delivery speed, support stakeholder follow-through, and ensure product requirements are sufficiently detailed for implementation.

Essential Functions
  • In addition to working in accordance with appropriate conduct and behavioral standards, specific responsibilities of this role include:

    Product Delivery and Backlog Enablement

    • Translate Director-owned epics, roadmap themes, stakeholder requests, and discovery notes into clear, actionable STRYs, acceptance criteria, and implementation-ready requirements.
    • Partner with the Director, Product Management to refine scope, identify open questions, document assumptions, and ensure delivery teams have the detail needed to begin work.
    • Maintain a healthy, well-groomed backlog by preparing stories ahead of sprint planning, clarifying dependencies, and supporting backlog refinement.
    • Facilitate sprint planning, backlog grooming, and cross-functional working sessions when needed to keep delivery moving.
    • Track follow-ups, decisions, open questions, and requirement changes across Product, Engineering, Data Engineering, QA, Support, and stakeholder teams.
    • Support administrative product delivery tasks, including request tracking, ticket hygiene, documentation updates, and stakeholder follow-through.

    Business Analysis and Requirements Definition

    • Conduct stakeholder interviews, internal discovery, gap analysis, and process review to clarify business needs and translate them into detailed product requirements.
    • Define user workflows, current-state and future-state process flows, report behavior, edge cases, and validation rules.
    • Author crisp, unambiguous requirements that include business outcomes, user needs, functional behavior, data expectations, error handling, and acceptance criteria.
    • Break complex reporting and data platform work into smaller deliverable increments that can be sequenced across sprints.
    • Identify risks, dependencies, blockers, and decision points that need Director, Product Management or leadership input.
    • Ensure requirements are traceable from stakeholder need through implementation, testing, and release readiness.

    Reporting, Analytics, and Data Mart Specification

    • Define and document reporting requirements, including field-level definitions, data grain, source logic, filtering behavior, grouping logic, calculations, and expected outputs.
    • Maintain mapping tables and data documentation across Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers where applicable.
    • Support data dictionary, glossary, lineage, and transformation documentation for reporting and analytics assets.
    • Partner with Data Engineering to validate feasibility, clarify source-to-target mappings, and document transformation logic.
    • Support production report development by defining report columns, filters, summaries, sort behavior, drill-through behavior, export expectations, and UI display requirements.
    • Document frontend report behavior, including grid interactions, null handling, placeholder behavior, tooltip definitions, and user-facing field descriptions.
    • Help ensure reporting outputs are scalable, accurate, consistent, and aligned with Nextech’s product operating model.

    Technical Research and Data Validation

    • Use SQL and data querying tools to perform basic research, validate assumptions, inspect data, and answer requirement questions independently.
    • Review data samples, source structures, and output scenarios to confirm that requirements align with available data.
    • Validate data accuracy, completeness, edge cases, and expected behavior during QA and UAT.
    • Partner with QA to define test scenarios, expected results, validation rules, and acceptance criteria for data-centric work.
    • Identify data quality concerns, lineage gaps, source system ambiguity, and reporting risks early in the delivery process.
    • Escalate technical tradeoffs and unresolved ambiguity to Product Management and Engineering leadership with clear context and recommendation options.

    Intake, and Stakeholder Follow-through

    • Support intake and triage of client requests, stakeholder asks, client-driven reporting needs, internal enhancement requests, and operational follow-ups.
    • Clarify request details by gathering examples, use cases, screenshots, expected behavior, and business impact.
    • Distinguish between defects, enhancements, discovery items, reporting gaps, documentation issues, and broader roadmap requests.
    • Track request status, open questions, ownership, and next steps to ensure items do not stall due to missing context.
    • Partner with the Director, Product Management to determine whether requests should become backlog items, discovery topics, documentation updates, or stakeholder communications.
    • Provide clear written summaries that help the Director, Product Management make faster prioritization and sequencing decisions.

    Cross-functional Partnership

    • Collaborate closely with the Director, Product Management, Engineering, Data Engineering, QA, Design, Support, Implementation, Commercial teams, and business stakeholders.
    • Act as a requirements translator between business stakeholders and technical delivery teams.
    • Help remove ambiguity before sprint commitment by ensuring scope, data dependencies, expected behavior, and acceptance criteria are clearly documented.
    • Support release readiness by confirming documentation, validation notes, stakeholder communication, and known limitations are captured.
    • Build credibility with engineering and stakeholder teams through strong preparation, clear writing, technical curiosity, and consistent follow-through.
    • Advocate for scalable, secure, and compliant product and data solutions that meet operational and regulatory expectations.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in product ownership, business analysis, technical business analysis, data analysis, reporting, or related product delivery roles.
  • Experience translating business needs into detailed technical requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, workflow documentation, and implementation-ready specifications.
  • Strong understanding of reporting concepts, data grain, field definitions, filtering logic, grouping behavior, calculations, and validation scenarios.
  • Working knowledge of SQL fundamentals, including SELECT, WHERE, JOIN, GROUP BY, HAVING, and ORDER BY.
  • Familiarity with relational database concepts, including tables, keys, joins, relationships, and normalization basics.
  • Experience working with data engineering, analytics, reporting, or data warehouse teams.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling, data marts, and reporting pipelines.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, story writing, and acceptance criteria definition.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to create clear, detailed, and actionable documentation.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including the ability to clarify ambiguous requests and drive follow-through.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent requests, open questions, and delivery priorities without losing detail.
  • Familiarity with healthcare workflows, healthcare technology, or regulatory frameworks such as HIPAA and HITECH is preferred.
Technical Acumen
  • SQL fundamentals: strong working command of SELECT, WHERE, JOIN, GROUP BY, HAVING, and ORDER BY, sufficient to inspect data and validate requirements independently.
  • Relational database fundamentals: solid understanding of tables, keys, relationships, joins, and normalization basics.

Preferred Qualfications
  • Experience in healthcare technology, EHR, revenue cycle management, ambulatory care, specialty care, or healthcare reporting.
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, Databricks, Power BI, Tableau, Sigma, Looker, or embedded analytics platforms.
  • Experience with data lakehouse architecture and Bronze, Silver, Gold data layer concepts.
  • Experience maintaining data dictionaries, glossary definitions, lineage documentation, or source-to-target mapping tables.
  • Experience writing requirements for frontend reporting experiences, including grids, filters, export behavior, drill-through, tooltips, and display logic.
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, Lucidchart, Visio, Figma, or similar documentation and delivery tools.
  • Exposure to HL7, FHIR, X12, or other healthcare data standards.
