What We Do

The Billing and Identity team creates solutions that enable the use of Mapbox products in a way that customers are automatically, securely and accurately billed by actual usage volume of our services. The team is responsible for developing automated billing and customer identity & access control systems.

We are a globally distributed team that works remotely and mostly async, believes in iterative experimentation, and fosters a collaborative environment that allows growth and delivery at scale.

What You'll Do

Working closely with the team in Helsinki, Finland, and various stakeholders across North America, you will develop flexible and secure usage-based billing and identity & access control solutions for all our customers. Your work will also drive anti-fraud initiatives and build a future-proof billing platform for Mapbox’s internal service teams and analytics.

As a curious and data-driven Technical Product Manager II, you'll join the Billing and Identity team at the right time to lead the vision, roadmap, and execution of the next set of initiatives that will make this happen.

More specifically, in this role you can expect to:

  • Lead the strategy, vision, roadmap and execution: Catalyze the expansion of Mapbox’s next generation billing platform and authentication service, pricing model evolution, and anti-fraud mechanics.

  • Navigate and maintain stakeholder relationships: Foster strong relationships with globally distributed cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Finance, Legal, Security, Analytics and Sales, to align product vision with business objectives.

  • Manage pricing releases: Work with leadership and constituents to create a launch strategy for pricing changes.

  • Define features and requirements: With acute focus on revenue, security, reliability and scalability.

  • Manage the lifecycle: Ensure minimal disruption to existing customers and define migration paths for transitioning to newer solutions.

  • Document your work and decision-making processes: Lead presentations and discussions in a way that is easy for others to understand and collaborate.

  • Uphold a culture of collaboration: We believe in transparency, creativity, inclusion, and data-driven decisions.

What We Believe are Important Traits for This Role

  • Location – you are located in New York City or Eastern Standard Time (EST) in the US.

  • Experience – you possess 5+ years of experience as a Technical Product Manager working cross-functionally with hundreds of engineers building multi-quarter roadmaps and shipping products to achieve it. Experience in identity and authorization technology is a must.

  • Communication – you possess excellent written and verbal communication skills interfacing with both technical and non-technical global audiences.

  • Technical depth -  you like system design thinking, are not afraid to get your hands dirty working with data and SQL, and can effectively collaborate with senior technical leaders across the company.

  • Metrics and impact-driven – you have a keen sense of translating customer needs into product solutions that create value and drive business outcomes.

  • Self-starter – you are autonomous and proactive thinking around the corner driving work to completion in the face of ambiguity.

  • Team Player – you love and seek to collaborate and share your expertise with individuals of diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences through documentation, mentorship, and both written and vocal discussion.

  • Technology – you are familiar with Systems Architecture, Payment Processing Systems, Microservices, Databases, Software Security, Authentication & Authorization, Anti Fraud & Abuse, and Big Data.

Nice to Have Traits for This Role

  • Prior background as a software engineer building backend web services.

  • Experience with automated payments and billing systems.

What We Value

In addition to our core values, which are not unique to this position and are necessary for Mapbox leaders:

  • We value high-performing creative individuals who dig into problems and opportunities.

  • We believe in individuals being their whole selves at work. We commit to this through supportive health care, parental leave, flexibility for the things that come up in life, and innovating on how we think about supporting our people.

  • We emphasize an environment of teaching and learning to equip employees with the tools needed to be successful in their function and the company.

  • We strongly believe in the value of growing a diverse team and encourage people of all backgrounds, genders, ethnicities, abilities, and sexual orientations to apply.
