We are looking for a Technical Architect to join our central Architecture & Design practice at NEC Software Solutions.
This role is focused on designing and delivering robust, scalable, and secure technical solutions across corporate platforms and customer‑facing services. You will work closely with delivery teams to translate requirements into high‑quality technical architectures that can be built, operated, and supported with confidence.
This is a hands‑on role working closely with delivery teams. Technical Architects at NEC stay closely involved in implementation, providing practical guidance, supporting teams through delivery, and ensuring solutions meet both functional and non‑functional requirements.
The role suits someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems, working across infrastructure and cloud platforms, and collaborating with others to deliver reliable outcomes.
- Producing technical architecture designs for corporate platforms and customer solutions across on‑premise, data centre, and public cloud environments.
- Evaluating architecture and design options, making evidence‑based recommendations that balance functional and non‑functional requirements.
- Working closely with delivery teams to support implementation, including knowledge transfer and hands‑on assistance where needed.
- Participating in the architecture peer review process, helping maintain high design quality across the practice.
- Presenting technical designs to the Technical Assurance Board and supporting assurance discussions with specialist knowledge.
- Contributing to technology roadmaps, investigating new and existing technologies to enable controlled adoption.
- Collaborating with Security Architects to ensure designs provide appropriate protection for workloads.
- Maintaining awareness of emerging technologies, platforms, and industry trends relevant to NEC’s services and customers.
Qualifications
You’re likely to be:
- A Technical Architect with strong infrastructure, platform, or cloud experience, or
- A senior engineer ready to step into a formal architecture role.
You’ll bring:
- Proven experience producing technical architecture designs.
- Strong understanding of compute, networking, storage, virtualisation, and cloud technologies.
- Confidence balancing delivery pressures with design quality and long‑term sustainability.
- The ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
Experience working within the UK public sector, with platforms such as Azure, AWS, or OCI, and technologies such as server virtualisation, networking, and storage, is highly valued.
Why join us?
- Work on a wide range of interesting and technically challenging solutions.
- Stay close to delivery while operating within a mature architecture governance framework.
- Be part of a supportive, multi‑disciplinary architecture team.
- Develop your career with opportunities to progress into senior or enterprise‑level architecture roles.

- 4 x basic salary life assurance cover funded by NEC (with the option to increase cover at an additional cost)
- A Group Pension Plan with fantastic employer contributions up to a maximum of 8.5%
