At NEC Software Solutions, our Technical Architects inspire innovation and help the business achieve its goals by designing effective solutions. You’ll create and maintain technical architecture designs for corporate platforms and business solutions hosted in our data centres and public cloud, as well as solution designs for the software and services we deliver to customers.
Collaboration is at the heart of this role. You’ll work closely with internal stakeholders to understand their needs and co-create solutions, whether for new opportunities or refreshing existing systems. Our Technical Architects combine technical design, consultancy, and guidance with hands-on implementation, creating robust platform services that support scalable, reliable, and secure applications. As the business transitions to innovative delivery models, you’ll be part of multidisciplinary teams, ensuring our software and services exceed customer expectations.
Joining our central architecture team means being part of a diverse community of specialists across enterprise, security, technical, and solution domains offering opportunities to grow and continuously refine your architecture and design practices.
Responsibilities will include:
Inspire confidence by producing technical architecture designs that meet business requirements and align with the overarching architecture framework.
Be actively involved in the peer review process, ensuring the highest quality of designs across the central architecture team.
Inspire clarity when presenting technical architecture designs to the Technical Assurance Board, supporting assurance with specialist knowledge and experience.
Stay involved in implementation by providing knowledge transfer to support teams and offering hands-on assistance where needed.
Innovate thoughtfully by evaluating architecture and design options and recommending solutions that meet both functional and non-functional requirements.
Drive innovation through technology roadmap contributions, investigating new and existing technologies to enable controlled adoption.
Continuously improve by maintaining expertise in NEC technologies, emerging trends, and industry standards to support business innovation through intelligent use of IT.
Qualifications
Essential
Proven experience producing technical architecture designs within a small to medium enterprise environment.
Proven understanding of non-functional requirements and their impact on technical architecture design.
Demonstrates a good working knowledge of end user, compute, networking, storage technologies, including desktop and server virtualisation technologies, network switches and firewalls, perimeter boundary protection, and SANs.
Demonstrates strong awareness of security ensuring that technical designs provide sufficient protection for workloads.
Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrating a variety of influencing styles to enable effective completion of tasks both individually and within groups.
Ability to manage concurrent projects employing effective time management skills.
Desire to undertake self-learning to ensure awareness of emerging technologies and potential security threats.
Desirable
Experience designing and implementing solutions deployed to a multi-tenanted community cloud platform.
Experience designing and implementing solutions deployed to public cloud platforms.
Experience of a subset of the core NEC technologies:
Operating Systems: Microsoft Windows, Oracle Solaris, Linux.
Server Virtualisation: VMware vSphere, Oracle OVM for x86, Oracle OVM for Sparc and Microsoft Hyper-V.
Networking: Cisco, Arista and Palo Alto network devices.
Storage: NetApp SANs.
Backup: Dell IDPA, HP Data Protector.
Public Cloud Platforms: Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, Oracle OCI.
Experience designing and delivering solutions within the UK Government domain.
Familiarity with compliance & security standards across the enterprise IT landscape such as ISO27001 and NCSC Cyber Essentials.
Familiarity with ITIL service management principles & tools, and their use in an ISO20000 compliant service management environment.
