Staff Software Engineer, Listings Platform

The Listing Platform team is responsible for building the next generation infrastructure serving listing data, maintaining and evolving the core listing data model, and core listing features. Our vision is to enable hosts of all sizes to merchandise their space & make hospitality easy by providing Hosts with tools to intuitively manage any kind of space, and building the platform that quickly serves the data to all parts of Airbnb. The team is focused on building robust and modular systems that allow efficient development and fast rollout of product features. The team has a broad scope and works with many partner teams across Airbnb.

We are seeking a staff engineer that is passionate about building highly scalable, flexible systems, data models and API that fuels the fast feature iterations of the Airbnb product. We are at the core of the success of Airbnb’s business, and play a key role in our expansion into other product areas.

A Typical Day: 

As a lead member of the technical staff on the team, the person will be 

• Lead efforts to architect, prototype, build and launch solutions for serving listing product flows and listing data.

• Provide critical input in team roadmap and technical direction.

• Influence and collaborate with stakeholders to adopt team goals and roadmaps.

• Build efficient and backend solutions that are reliable, performant and scalable.

• Evangelize high quality software engineering practices towards building highly scalable systems.

• Mentor engineers both within and outside of the team

Your Expertise:

• 10+ years of full-time work experience in software engineering, information technology, or related domains.

• Experience with designing and building large scale production systems or features.

• Technical leadership: hands on experience leading project teams, setting technical direction and strategy, prototyping to iterate ideas, and working cross-functionally with Product and Data Science teams

• Strong communication and collaboration skills. Examples of working across teams and organizations on technical initiatives.

• Willing to work across the full stack to address technical challenges anywhere in the system.

• Experience with working in a cross-functional team that touches many of the core systems and user flows at Airbnb.

• Proficiency in one or more backend server languages (Java/Kotlin)

• Experiences with AWS/Aurora or equivalent storage systems

• Experiences with Api Modeling in GraphQL preferred

• Experiences with ElasticSearch a plus

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager.
