Staff Software Engineer - Internal Developer Platform
At MyFitnessPal, we believe good health starts with what you eat. We provide tools, resources and support to enable users to reach their health goals.
We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join the MyFitnessPal Infrastructure team. As a member of the MyFitnessPal Infrastructure team, you’ll have the opportunity to positively impact MyFitnessPal users through your expertise in the cloud infrastructure that drives the foundation of the MyFitnessPal ecosystem. In addition to technical expertise, you’ll find that your teammates value collaboration, mentorship, and inclusive environments.
About the team:
The Infrastructure team is responsible for architecting and operating the cloud and edge platforms that power all of our production and internal services. We are looking to evolve the team’s capabilities through opinionated infrastructure, developer self-service capabilities, and a strong bias toward automation over manual operations.
The Infrastructure team is part of the Technology Operations (TechOps) organization, which includes IT, Infrastructure, Security, Reliability, and DevOps/DevEx disciplines. TechOps seeks to enable MyFitnessPal to “ship with confidence” by delivering a secure, reliable, and low-friction runway to build and operate software at scale.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Staff Software Engineer on the Infrastructure team, you will design, build, and evolve a low-friction internal developer platform that enables product engineers to self-serve infrastructure and cloud service capabilities. You will play a key role in delivering an outstanding experience to MyFitnessPal users.
What you’ll be doing:
Define and build MyFitnessPal’s Internal Developer Platform (IDP) from the ground up, turning our cloud infrastructure capabilities into a product that enables engineers to ship with confidence
Lead major technical initiatives to dramatically improve developer velocity and autonomy, including automation that reduces cognitive load and operational toil
Partner with Infrastructure, Security, and Product Engineering to identify the highest-leverage platform problems and deliver solutions that are secure-by-default and easy-to-adopt
Drive adoption through experimentation, using feedback loops, developer listening sessions, office hours, metrics, and iterative improvements based on real usage
Mature the Infrastructure team’s capabilities through automation and efficient architectural design
Coach team members to grow technical skills and increase the success of the team
Provide thought leadership on industry best practices around design, testing, security, and deployment
Be at the forefront of ways agentic AI is influencing software development
Turn big ideas or complex problems into simple, elegant solutions
Qualifications to be successful in this role:
Possess 3+ years of experience as a senior software or senior cloud infrastructure engineer
Strong software engineering foundation with significant experience building platforms or developer-facing infrastructure tooling (you’ve shipped products to internal users)
Proven experience taking a platform engineering initiative from zero to meaningful adoption, including defining the “north star,” designing and shipping the initial product, and iterating based on feedback and metrics
Deep experience with cloud-native infrastructure on AWS and modern runtime patterns (Docker/Kubernetes/EKS, EC2, S3, etc.)
Expertise in building automation with IaC (Terraform is a plus) and modern CI/CD systems (GitHub Actions is a plus) with an emphasis on reusability and developer ergonomics
Strong understanding of cloud networking and security fundamentals (VPCs, identity/IAM, policy/guardrails, secrets management)
Experience designing and applying automated testing and tooling to reduce maintenance overhead and operational toil
Demonstrated experience in planning and executing complex projects while driving alignment across cross-functional teams
Experience supporting B2C/mobile backend environments with high traffic, rapid iteration, and strong reliability needs is a plus
AWS or equivalent cloud solutions architect certifications are a plus
Values you’ll model
Be Kind and Care — build with empathy; assume positive intent; support teammates and members.
Live Good Health — champion healthy habits and balance in how we work and what we ship.
Be Data-Inspired — ground decisions in research and data; measure what matters.
Champion Change — lean into ambiguity; iterate, learn, and improve continuously.
Leave it Better than You Found It — raise quality, clarify systems, and document as you go.
Make It Happen — bias to action; deliver impact with craft and accountability.
The reasonably estimated salary for this role at MyFitnessPal ranges from $170,000 - $200,000. Actual compensation is based on factors such as the candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience. In addition, MyFitnessPal offers a wide range of comprehensive and inclusive employee benefits for this role including healthcare, parental planning, mental health benefits, annual performance bonus, a 401(k) plan and match, responsible time off, monthly wellness and technology allowances, and others.
