What you’ll do

• Help lead the team from the technical side on MetaMask’s support of Bitcoin, collaborate with the Product Team on the strategic direction of Bitcoin support, and contribute to the design and development of new features for the extension and mobile clients.

• Ensure the codebase remains clean, maintainable, and well-documented, following best practices and coding standards to facilitate future enhancements, bug fixes, and scalability.

• Provide technical expertise and support to the team, assisting with problem-solving, code reviews, and troubleshooting issues. Collaborate with cross-functional team members to ensure successful project delivery.

• Stay updated with the latest developments in blockchain technologies (especially Bitcoin and Ethereum), cryptographic standards, and industry trends. Continuously evaluate new tools, libraries, and frameworks.

• Document the development process, architecture, and relevant information. Share knowledge with the team through documentation, presentations, or workshops to promote understanding and enable future team members to work effectively.

Responsibilities will include

• Develop, maintain, and improve the MetaMask wallet, snaps, and internal libraries using JavaScript and TypeScript.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement scalable and secure systems

• Conduct code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and enforce best practices to ensure high quality code.

• Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and advancements in blockchain technology, specifically about account and key management, cryptography, and hardware wallets.

• Maintain and develop hardware wallet integrations with the client apps.

Minimum Requirements

• Great understanding of Bitcoin and the blockchain ecosystem. With emphasis on BIPs (Bitcoin Improvement Proposals), transactions and fees, Bitcoin network and security, and second layer applications (e.g. taproot assets, payment and state channels, lightning network, etc.)

• Strong JavaScript and TypeScript skills, advanced proficiency with JS based frontend frameworks, and experience with node environment

• Excellent problem-solving skills to design high quality solutions

• Ability to lead a team of engineers or work as part of one

• Strong technical design ability

• Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) in English, with the ability to collaborate with cross functional teams

• Experience collaborating with Product Managers, Designers, and QA Engineers

• Enthusiasm for continual learning and interest in blockchain technologies, specially Ethereum and Bitcoin

Nice to have

• Bonus points if you have knowledge of and are familiar with other non-EVM based blockchain technologies (like Solana).

• Security and cryptography experience

• You’re an active participant in the Bitcoin ecosystem

• You have built a MetaMask Snap
