Who We Are

Ro is a direct-to-patient healthcare company with a mission of helping as many patients as possible achieve their health goals. Ro is the only company to offer telehealth care, at-home diagnostic testing, labs, and pharmacy services nationwide. This is enabled by Ro's vertically integrated platform that helps patients achieve their goals through a convenient end-to-end healthcare experience spanning from diagnosis, to delivery of medication, to ongoing care. Since 2017, Ro has helped millions of patients in nearly every single county in the United States, including 98% of primary care deserts.

Ro was recognized as a CNBC Disruptor 50 in 2022, listed by Inc. Magazine as a Best Place to Work in 2022 for our third consecutive year, and named one of FORTUNE's 2022 Best Medium Workplaces.

Ro is hiring a Staff Product Designer to drive high-level design strategy and detailed design execution across internal products. You are a product designer who can oversee our platform design system and governance process to ensure we intentionally, methodically, and systematically evolve and improve our UI components and design patterns. You get excited about enabling peer product designers with processes and documentation needed to leverage, contribute to, and scale our evolving design system. You are a designer who can design for our internal Electronic Medical Record (EMR) focusing on creating exceptional experiences for our healthcare providers. You are highly skilled at understanding complex problems across integrated systems and will bring a strong mix of leadership, curiosity, process, and advocacy for your end users and design craft. You’ll be an integral part of the end-to-end product development cycle and will partner closely with Product Management, Engineering, Data, Medical, and Legal.

What You’ll Do:

  • Develop and maintain the Ro Internal design system ensuring it reflects human centered design principles, best practices in UX, UI, interaction design and visual design.

  • Design, test, and document global UI components in partnership with the product design team, product, and engineering.

  • Document the usage instructions, design patterns, principles, best practices and guidelines for the system and ensure designers and developers are able to effectively leverage the system.

  • Iterate and improve the design system over time, incorporating feedback from users, stakeholders and evolving UX best practices.

  •  Own your design process end to end. Take a leading role in solving business problems, through design, at the heart of a complex healthcare delivery platform.

  • Set and raise the quality bar for design and influence through mastery of craft and problem-solving.

  • Make data-driven decisions that translate business goals into product experiences, and distill complexity into simple and elegant experiences.

  • Inspire and influence cross-functional team members and senior leadership by presenting design variations, design rationale, and evidence-based decision-making.

  • Lead all phases and aspects of design from vision, strategy, research, ideation, UX architecture, flows, interactions, wireframing, testing, and polished visual design.

  • Create unified end-to-end healthcare professional and patient experiences.

  • Mentor and coach other designers around how to grow their craft.

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

  • Demonstrated experience managing and scaling a design system

  •  Ability to think at both a high level about product strategy and vision AND the design details.

  • Experience designing and shipping end-to-end products across different use cases, complicated flows, and edge cases

  • Experience understanding and designing for the day-to-day execution of complex tasks by knowledge workers, such as design for (but not limited to):

  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR)

  • Insurance claims processing

  • Corporate banking or Investment portfolio management

  • Proven design leadership in multidisciplinary teams and experience working with multiple stakeholders and senior product and engineering peers

  • Ability to provide design variations and the rationale behind decisions made to support your design choices

  • Experience working on maturing software platforms at companies with many teams or squads collaborating and across multiple stakeholders

  • Depth in experience and a passion for understanding your user’s needs through qualitative research methods

  • Strong communication and storytelling skills

  • You see the value in discussing design in group settings and participating in design critiques and reviews

  • Mentorship and coaching experience to inspire and influence other designers

  • A pattern of curiosity and skill-building over time (growth mindset)

We’ve Got You Covered:

  • Full medical, dental, and vision insurance + One Medical membership

  • Healthcare and Dependent Care FSA

  • 401(k) with company match

  • Flexible PTO

  • Wellbeing + Learning & Growth reimbursements

  • Paid parental leave + Fertility benefits

  • Pet insurance

  • Student loan refinancing

  • Virtual resources for mindfulness, counseling, and fitness

The target base salary for this position ranges from $195,000 to $230,000, in addition to a competitive equity and benefits package (as applicable). When determining compensation, we analyze and carefully consider several factors, including location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. These considerations may cause your compensation to vary.

Ro recognizes the power of in-person collaboration, while supporting the flexibility to work anywhere in the United States. For our Ro’ers in the tri-state (NY) area, you will join us at HQ on Tuesdays and Thursdays. For those outside of the tri-state area, you will be able to join in-person collaborations throughout the year (i.e., during team on-sites).

At Ro, we believe that our diverse perspectives are our biggest strengths — and that embracing them will create real change in healthcare.
