Staff Product Designer
POS-P675
About the Role
We’re looking for several Staff Product Designers to help shape the future of HubSpot’s product experiences. These are senior individual contributor roles for designers who operate at both strategic and executional altitudes. You will lead complex, ambiguous problem spaces, influence cross-functional direction, and raise the quality bar across teams.
Staff designers at HubSpot are systems thinkers, craft leaders, and force multipliers. They drive clarity where there is ambiguity, connect surface-level decisions to long-term strategy, and help teams build cohesive experiences at scale.
This role may align to different product areas across the organization. While domains may vary, the expectations of impact, leadership, and craft excellence remain consistent.
At the Staff level, we expect designers to:
Own outcomes, not just outputs
Think beyond their immediate team to drive ecosystem-level coherence
Proactively identify and solve problems before they escalate
Elevate others through mentorship and craft leadership
Make principled tradeoffs that balance speed, quality, and long-term scalability
Some current focus areas include our AI Mobile strategy, Data Platform, Marketing Hub, Design Systems, Flywheel and Fintech. We’ll figure out what matches your career interests together!
What You’ll Do
Drive Strategic Design Direction
Lead design for large, complex, and ambiguous problem spaces
Translate company strategy into coherent experience strategy
Identify opportunities that cut across teams and advocate for cohesive solutions
Design AI-Powered and Intelligent Experiences
Lead the design of AI-enabled features and workflows, including generative and predictive experiences
Translate complex AI capabilities into intuitive, trustworthy user experiences
Define patterns for transparency, explainability, feedback loops, and human-in-the-loop systems
Establish design principles for AI usage across surfaces and teams
Elevate Craft and Systems Thinking
Deliver high-quality interaction, visual, and systems-level design
Ensure solutions scale across surfaces and use cases
Contribute to and evolve design systems, patterns, and shared frameworks
Raise the quality bar through critique, feedback, and modeling excellence
Lead Through Influence
Operate as a senior design voice in cross-functional conversations
Facilitate alignment across teams with competing priorities
Mentor and coach other designers to grow their craft and impact
Influence without authority by building trust and clarity
Connect Research, Data, and Design
Leverage qualitative and quantitative insights to inform decisions
Frame the right problems before jumping to solutions
Balance user needs, business goals, and technical realities
What We’re Looking For
We typically hire people with 8-10+ years of product design experience, with demonstrated impact in complex product environments but we care less about years of experience and more about impact - show us what makes you a Staff level Designer!
Experience leading end-to-end design for high-impact initiatives - we’re looking for more than people who just deliver features - we’re looking for people who can own strategy and deliver designs that create customer joy
Strong systems thinking and ability to design across workflows, not just screens - HubSpot’s products are interconnected, so you have to be able to open your aperture and think across wide surface areas.
Demonstrated ability to influence strategy and cross-functional direction - You can seamlessly move between looking across large surface areas and small details and make things feel easy (even though we know they aren’t always)
Excellence in interaction design, visual design, and product thinking - you can walk the walk, we can’t wait to see your work!
Experience mentoring designers and raising team-wide craft standards - we want Staff Designers who love to mentor and shape teams and share their knowledge - force multiplication!
Comfort navigating ambiguity and defining structure where none exists - we deal with lots of ambiguity because there isn’t someone telling us what to build (other than our customers!) so if you don’t like having to find your way through ambiguous spaces, you might not want to apply for this one. Our Senior Product Designer II role might be a better match!
Strong storytelling and communication skills - you have to get buy-in for your vision across teams and that comes from telling a story that shares how you will impact customer outcomes
