American Specialty Health Incorporated is seeking a Sr Manager, Benefits and Compensation to work with our Human Resources department. This position will manage and provide oversight of the administration of ASH’s health and wellness benefits programs including ergonomics, leave of absences, workers compensation, safety programs, and compensation. Responsible for implementing ASH benefit strategies through collaboration with internal resources (Finance, IT, HRIS, etc.) and external resources (Consultant/Broker, Carriers and other service providers).

Salary Range

American Specialty Health complies with state and federal wage and hour laws and compensation depends upon candidate’s qualifications, education, skill set, years of experience, and internal equity. $69,200 to $107,100 Full-Time Annual Salary Range

Remote Worker Considerations: 

Candidates who are selected for this position will be trained remotely and must be able to work from home (WFH) in a designated work area with company-provided technology equipment. This remote/WFH position requires you have a stable connection to your Internet Service Provider with the ability to participate by video in online meetings over a reliable and consistent network (minimum internet download of 50 Mbps and 10 Mbps upload speed. 100 down/20 up is recommended to support higher quality video meetings).  

Responsibilities

  • Establish and Maintain Employee Benefits Program.

  • Leads the design and implementation of benefits and wellness programs; proposes program improvements as needed.

  • Oversees leave of absences and workers compensation program.

  • Oversees the Injury and Illness Prevention Program, including Ergonomics Program and ensuring OSHA compliance.

  • Works with Vice President, HR and Sr. Talent Acquisition Manager on compensation structure and provides guidance and support on strategy and administrative functions and analysis.

  • Evaluates, designs and recommends benefit programs based on overall effectiveness, benchmarks, market assessment, business strategy and cost impact.

  • Designs, implements and directs Health, Benefit and Wellness strategies and plans including policies/procedures.

  • Ensure that benefit plans are administered in compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations including, but not limited to: ERISA, DOL, IRS.

  • Manage relationships with vendors, brokers and carriers, including monitoring of cost, service levels, processes, and accuracy of data.

  • Oversee the effective communication of the company’s employee benefits plans and program to optimize impact and understanding.

  • Leads, develops and motivates a team of professionals in accomplishing goals associated with the benefits, leave of absence and workers compensation functions and objectives.

  • Manages annual open enrollment.

  • Coordinate management meetings to review broker recommendations for benefit changes and new benefits to better meet corporate objectives for employee recruiting and retention.

  • Oversees Wellness Team including meetings, activities and events.

  • Reviews and verifies employee information processed by automated human resources information systems (UltiPro) ensuring data integrity with the processing and reporting of benefits data.

  • Oversees periodic audits on benefits administration through Ultipro.

  • Management responsibilities:

  • Supervises benefits team engaged in the above functions providing work direction; performance reviews; salary and promotion recommendations; hiring; termination and supports staff in the accomplishment of assigned objectives; projects and goals.

  • Participates in a variety of managerial responsibilities such as (but not limited to): serving on work groups; performing special projects, assignments and reports; preparing communication and attending seminars.

  • Participates in meetings with executive team regarding annual benefits renewal and quarterly 401k meetings.

  • Develops spirit of cooperation and understanding among staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field required.

  • At least 10 years benefits administration experience including plan strategy and design, compensation, as well as leave of absence and workers compensation.

  • At least 5 years management experience.

  • Well versed in FMLA, ADA, CFRA, PDL and state specific laws.

  • Knowledgeable of OSHA regulations.

  • Experience with EEOC and DFEH claims.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, time keeping system (Kronos preferred), and Human Resources database (Ultipro preferred).

  • Extensive knowledge of employee health and wellness programs, concepts, practices, and regulations.

  • Strong working knowledge of multi state employee benefits including leave of absences, ADA, interactive process, and workers compensation.

  • Demonstrated ability to fully understand various benefits programs, including wellness initiatives, healthcare spending accounts, fully ensured plans and self-funded plans.

  • Demonstrated ability to understand benefits management including compensation structures.

  • Strong knowledge of COBRA and other federal and state regulations relevant to Benefit Plan Administration including 401k and Deferred Compensation.

  • Strong communication skills. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing with tact and confidence in order to explain technical compliance and other sensitive matters. Must be able to make group presentations.

Ability to speak, see and hear other personnel and/or objects. Ability to communicate both in verbal and written form. Ability to travel within the facility. Capable of using a telephone and computer keyboard. Ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
