THE CHALLENGE

We are looking for a Sr Director of Strategy and Operations, Chief of Staff (CoS) to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) who will drive and support the strategic direction and operational excellence of our global engineering team. They will work closely with the CTO and engineering executive staff to design and drive operating mechanisms that support product delivery, operational excellence, technical strategy, quality and performance of our systems and career development of our global team.  

 

THE TEAM

You will partner with our CTO Vivek Sagi, who has led our global engineering organization since 2020 in building the leading marketplace for live experiences. Engineering is the largest organization in the company and Vivek’s engineering executive staff is a team of seven who have a diverse set of backgrounds and tenure. You will be the eight member of this team.

You will serve as a trusted advisor and confidant to Vivek and the engineering executive staff, helping amplify efforts and function as a thought partner on diverse challenges.  The CoS will have the unique opportunity to be exposed to and operate at the highest strategy and operations levels withing engineering and across the company.  You will forge connections with senior leaders both inside and outside of the organization and bring your skills and experience to solve the company’s most challenging problems with a focus on engineering as we scale and grow globally.

The CoS will immediately impact our productivity by inducing velocity in decision making, streamlining strategic initiatives, clarifying strategic goals, overseeing executive staff program management, driving accountability, and communicating objectives across all engineering functions globally.  The CoS will help create and maintain opportunities for the CTO to connect with customers, partners and teams globally.  

 

THE ROLE

  •  Lead and manage the regular engineering executive staff cadence (e.g., executive and functional leadership meetings, executive planning sessions, quarterly  leadership offsites, global engineering all hands).

  • Manage the engineering budget of over~$70M and our overall hiring priorities and vendor relationships.  

  • Develop and execute on programs for strategic initiatives that cut across the engineering organization and drive improvements to internal operations

  • Lead the global program management and technical program management organizations with over 10 talented employees

  • Partner with our CTO to drive efficiency and productivity of the function, streamlining initiatives, managing programs, and communicating cross-functional objectives 

  • Maintain operational cadence for engineering, including OKRs, annual planning,budget management  and more

  • Act as a representative to the CTO to various stakeholders, both internally and externally

  • Oversee strategic initiatives from ideation to implementation

  • Work with leadership to deliver, monitor, and communicate progress toward goals

  • Provide the CTO and executive team insight and analysis of engineering operations   

 

THE SKILL SET

  • Experienced: 10+ years experience in a senior operating role at a fast-paced technology company; engineering operations; project management 

  • Operational Excellence: You will be instrumental in maintaining operational excellence through strategy development and process excellence to improve team performance.  You have a roll-up-the-sleeves approach with strong executive presence and analytical rigor.

  • Strategic: You are highly organized and detail-oriented, able to handle multiple deadlines, projects, and stakeholders. You can define how a project may benefit engineering efficiency and our strategic plan and help execute it.

  • Interpersonal Communications Skills: You can convey complex ideas concisely and in an actionable manner to internal and external audiences.  You can influence via your ability to pull together compelling, data-driven narratives.

  • Collaborative: You have a deep understanding of how to build collaborative relationships with others, including our customers, the company Executive Team, engineering leadership team, cross functional leaders, and partners, among others. You possess high emotional intelligence and comfort in engaging with team members and business leaders. 

  • Flexible: You can thrive in a dynamic environment and feel comfortable with ambiguity. You can work with evolving systems and structures, demonstrating the flexibility to adapt to changing settings while managing multiple projects and competing priorities.

  • Personable: As an ambassador of Eventbrite and representative of the CTO, you embody the company's spirit internally and externally.
