About the Role:
We’re looking for an accomplished Sr. Designer, Color, Material, & Finish (CMF), who will be pivotal in overseeing and coordinating multiple CMF projects for the Industrial Design and Packaging teams. This position requires a strong background in manufacturing techniques, trend forecasting, sustainability, a deep understanding of packaging and industrial design processes, and the ability to inspire and guide cross-functional teams. You are comfortable helping teams come together to deliver exceptional experiences – and as such, you are highly competent in socializing, initiating, and driving process collaboration, negotiations, and delivery of various deliverables on time and within budget while remaining flexible, humble, and collaborative. This role is remote (US) and reports to the Head of Industrial & Packaging Design.
You Will:
CMF Strategy: Develop and execute comprehensive Color, Material, and Finish strategies aligned with the company's brand identity and product positioning. Creating renderings, artwork, and material samples to illustrate approaches.
Color and Flavor Management: Develop and manage color and flavor consistency across product lines, including Rx tablets, OTC consumables, vials, and shipper boxes, and collaborate with manufacturers to achieve desired outcomes.
Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams including industrial designers, insights, R&D engineers, and marketing to ensure seamless integration of CMF elements into the product development process.
Trend Research: Stay abreast of industry trends, consumer preferences, and emerging materials to influence design decisions and maintain a competitive edge.
Material Sourcing and Sustainability: Identify, evaluate, and source innovative and sustainable materials that align with the company's values and design objectives. Engage directly with suppliers at trade shows and material workshops. Forging new collaborative relationships.
Quality Control: Conduct regular quality control checks during production to ensure the final product aligns with the approved CMF specifications.
Documentation: Create detailed CMF specifications, documentation, and guidelines for internal teams and external vendors to ensure consistency in production.
Prototyping and Testing: Collaborate with prototyping teams to create physical samples for evaluation, ensuring the chosen CMF elements meet quality and aesthetic standards.
You Have:
5+ years of CMF/Industrial design experience with bringing multiple products to the market.
Excellent skills in ideation, visualization, and communication. (CAD, Keyshot, Adobe Creative suite)
An impressive design portfolio with samples demonstrating excellent knowledge of material technologies and manufacturing processes, awareness of social, environmental, and design trends, and ability to articulate meaningful CMF design considerations.
Understands the latest technologies and manufacturing processes and how to implement them best and has a proven understanding of mechanical engineering and sustainability.
Well-versed in user-centered design methods, testing, and techniques.
Willingness to take direction and learn from others.
Enjoys an autonomous working style and believes in collaboration in a multi-disciplinary design environment.
