At MyFitnessPal, our vision is to be the most trusted brand for improving your health through better food choices. We believe good health starts with what you eat. We provide the tools and resources to reach your weight management goals.

We are looking for a Sr. Counsel, Privacy to join our Legal team. Reporting to the General Counsel, you will focus on driving, improving, building, and managing our privacy compliance program and processes in view of a rapidly changing regulatory environment.

What you’ll be doing:

Compliance:

  • Advising on and ensuring compliance with global data privacy laws and regulations, including CCPA, state privacy legislation, GDPR, and other relevant laws and industry standards

  • Monitoring and interpreting evolving privacy legislation and regulatory requirements

Policy and Data Governance:

  • Drafting and updating consumer facing terms, including privacy notices, representations, settings, FAQs, terms of service, and other policies and UI features related to user data

  • Develop, implement, and maintain privacy policies, procedures, and standards for the company

Privacy by Design:

  • Collaborating with product and engineering teams to integrate privacy considerations into the design and development of new products and features, providing practical and business-oriented legal advice to internal business teams

  • Reviewing and maintaining records of processing activities and conducting privacy impact assessments (PIAs) and data protection impact assessments (DPIAs)

  • Advising internal clients on development, collection, use, transfer and governance of user data and identifying potential privacy or other regulatory risks

Advocacy and Negotiation:

  • Serving as a point of contact for privacy inquiries from end users, vendors, partners, and other stakeholders

  • Reviewing and negotiating data processing agreements and privacy terms in a variety of other agreements

As a member of a very small (and enthusiastic!) legal team, you may also be asked to draft, review and negotiate vendor contracts, commercial contracts, and contracts with strategic partners where required, and/or handle other legal matters.

Qualifications to be successful in this role:

  • 5+ years of firm and/or in-house experience

  • A Juris Doctor degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association and membership in at least one state bar

  • Accreditation from the IAPP - Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US at a minimum)

  • Prior in-house experience with a high growth, fast moving digital company

  • Experience in privacy law, preferably with experience in a digital consumer-facing industry

Key Competencies:

  • You are an entrepreneurial and creative problem solver who thrives in a dynamic and versatile environment with frequently shifting priorities

  • You have an intellectual curiosity about the industry and emerging digital technologies

  • You have an understanding of technology, specifically mobile applications (both iOS and Android), product development, and the advertising ecosystem

  • You have an ability to drive and execute a program and strategy in an environment where not everything is in your control

  • You work well independently without requiring extensive supervision while prioritizing teamwork in a collaborative and supportive culture

  • You are a critical and strategic thinker with excellent judgment who shows initiative and enjoys solving complex problems

  • You have strong business acumen with a track record of providing guidance and risk-appropriate, solutions-oriented advice

  • You have strong organizational and interpersonal skills and you enjoy and can work effectively cross functionally with teams

  • You support MyFitnessPal’s mission to make the world a healthier place

Please consider applying even if you don’t meet 100% of the qualifications. Research shows you can still be considered for a position if you meet some of the requirements. At MyFitnessPal, we’re building a fitness product for everyone and believe our team should reflect that. We encourage people of different backgrounds, experiences, abilities, and perspectives to apply.
