Team Description:

The Ads API is a critical new business unit, and the company is staffing up partner functions to fuel the growth of this area. This team’s ownership is both horizontal and vertical. We own the platform layer that other product teams use to surface their endpoints and features. APIs that our 3p partners rely on to manage campaigns, generate reports, and integrate Reddit into their own platforms. We also own products that are used by our external customers in their integration, like rate limiting, authentication, SDKs, etc. By providing world-class tools and infrastructure, we enable our partners to grow their business and, in turn, grow Reddit’s

Role description:

This role requires a leader with a strong sense of agency, capable of navigating ambiguity and taking decisive ownership to drive the platform forward. The Reddit ads marketplace is a dynamic and complicated environment. To empower advertisers and partners to succeed at scale, the Ads API team builds the public-facing platform that provides programmatic access to our advertising ecosystem.

Responsibilities:

  • Set Technical Vision: Define the long-term vision and technical roadmap for the Ads API platform. Proactively identify opportunities and challenges, translating business needs into a clear technical strategy and concrete milestones.

  • Lead & Mentor: Hire, coach, and develop a high-performing team of software engineers. Foster a culture of extreme ownership, technical excellence, and proactive problem-solving.

  • Architect for Scale: Drive architectural decisions to ensure the Ads API is highly available, performant, and can scale to meet the growing demands of our advertising ecosystem.

  • Drive Best Practices: Establish and enforce best practices for API design, versioning, security, and developer experience. Act as the accountable owner for the end-to-end quality of the platform, holding partner teams to a high standard of service uptime.

  • Collaborate & Partner: Work closely with product management, partner management, and other engineering teams to ensure the Ads API meets the needs of both internal stakeholders and external developers.

Who You Are: You are a high-agency leader who doesn't wait for direction; you see what needs to be done and take the initiative to make it happen. You have a strong sense of ownership and are driven to find solutions, work through ambiguity and enjoy complex challenges.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of industry experience as a Software Engineer.

  • 2+ years managing (including coaching, mentoring, developing) engineering teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to drive projects from inception to completion, acting as the primary agent of change.

  • Proven experience designing, building, and operating scalable, public-facing APIs (e.g., REST, gRPC).

  • Experience with at least two general programming languages such as Python, Go, Scala, Java, or C++.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to work effectively with product managers, data scientists, and other xfn stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing Infrastructure or Platform teams.

  • Experience in the advertising technology space.

  • Experience with API gateways, authentication/authorization protocols (e.g., OAuth), and rate limiting.

Benefits:
