Position Overview

As a Software Engineer II, you'll play a key role in building and integrating web applications, services, and tools that real people use. Working as a full-stack developer, you'll engage with our core technologies, including Java, JavaScript, HTML/CSS, relational databases, and SQL. You'll also use AI tools such as Claude Code to focus your effort where it matters most and raise the quality of what you ship.

You'll be part of a growing development team, contributing to the design, building, testing, and deployment of enterprise-level applications. These solutions will serve clients across North America, and you'll have the opportunity to collaborate with various teams to deliver impactful, high-quality software.


Responsibilities
  • Use agentic AI tools such as Claude Code across the full lifecycle, from design through building, testing, and deployment, applying your engineering knowledge to give the tools context and validate their output.
  • Actively participate in Agile ceremonies, contributing valuable insights during planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Collaborate with team members to solve technical challenges and improve the development process.
  • Build and deploy web applications, ensuring performance, reliability, and user satisfaction.
  • Contribute to testing, using AI to automate it where it adds value, to help deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Stay current with new technologies, including AI tools, and adapt to new ways of working to improve quality and effectiveness.
  • Take ownership of tasks, ensuring timely completion and adherence to standards.
  • Contribute to architecture discussions and suggest improvements.
  • Conduct code reviews, including reviewing and validating code produced with AI tools, and incorporate feedback.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in development and production.
  • Document technical designs and best practices.
  • Engage in professional development, including training and workshops.
  • Suggest process improvements to enhance team efficiency.
  • Share knowledge to foster team growth and learning.
  • Communicate clearly with stakeholders, providing updates and raising concerns.
Qualifications and Competencies
  • 3+ years of experience in software development, with a focus on Java backend web applications.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong proficiency in Java, with experience writing clean, maintainable, and testable code following industry best practices.
  • Solid understanding of relational databases and proficiency in SQL for data manipulation and querying.
  • Experience with web technologies such as HTML, JavaScript, and CSS for developing user interfaces and interactive applications.
  • Familiarity with modern development and deployment methodologies, including AWS services and cloud computing concepts.
  • Ability to develop clean, efficient code and address complex technical problems with a solution-focused mindset, including the judgement to review and validate code produced with AI tools.
  • Eager to keep learning and adapt to change, exploring new ways of working to become more efficient and effective.
  • General AI literacy is a plus, including familiarity with AI terminology and core concepts such as large language models, prompting, providing context, and the limitations of AI output.
  • Experience with AI coding tools such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot is a plus but not required. Training will be provided.

It includes live coding and multiple-choice questions, focusing on Java and JavaScript. We’re not looking for perfection; we’re interested in how you approach problem-solving.


👥 Stage 4: 1-hour Technical Interview


If the assessment goes well, you'll move on to the technical interview. You'll get to meet our Software Engineering Manager (Maryam or Andrew) and a Team Lead. This is a great opportunity to show off your technical skills. We value collaboration, so we'll discuss the assessment together. We’re interested not just in your final solution, but also in your thought process and how you got there.
