Serve as lead counsel on domestic and non‑U.S. reinsurance matters, including drafting, reviewing, analyzing, interpreting, advising on, and negotiating ceded and assumed reinsurance contracts (treaty and facultative), commutations, adverse development covers, contract amendments, and collateral arrangements. Provide reinsurance legal support for transactional matters (ILS, M&A, etc.), including due diligence, deal structuring, preparation and review of documentation, and negotiation. Assist with and oversee reinsurance disputes, arbitrations, collections, and audits; engage and manage outside counsel where appropriate. Represent and advise the Company on reinsurance components of strategically important legal and business transactions involving complex or novel issues and adversarial positions. Advise business leadership and participate in company policy formulation as requested. Perform and direct comprehensive legal research on reinsurance and related accounting, regulatory, and corporate governance issues. Coordinate and synthesize the Company's position in response to changes in law; represent the Company before legislative, regulatory, and administrative bodies as needed. Supervise, assign, and review the work of other attorneys, contract specialists, and paralegals; develop and deliver internal training as appropriate. Maintain current knowledge of legal developments in reinsurance and related areas. Perform other duties as required by the practice group. J.D. or L.L.B. degree and admission to the bar of at least one U.S. jurisdiction. Minimum of 8-10 years' experience as a practicing attorney, with substantial and demonstrable experience in reinsurance transactional matters. Expert knowledge of reinsurance law and demonstrated ability to handle highly complex legal assignments with minimal supervision. Excellent analytical skills, legal writing, and oral communication. Strong client focus and proven ability to interact effectively with internal stakeholders, business leaders, outside counsel, and representatives of other companies. Ability to manage multiple priorities, exercise attention to detail, and meet deadlines. Familiarity with corporate and insurance business operations and objectives. Demonstrated experience supervising or mentoring other attorneys and legal staff is preferred.
