Who are we?

We are The Motley Fool, a purpose-driven financial information and services firm with 30+ years of experience focused on making the world smarter, happier, and richer. But what does that even mean?! It means we’re helping Fools (always with a capital “F”) demystify the world of finance, beat the stock market, and achieve personal wealth and happiness through our products and services.

The Motley Fool is firmly committed to diversity, inclusion, and equity. We are a motley group of overachievers that have built a culture of trust founded on Foolishness, fun, and a commitment to making the world smarter, happier and richer.  However you identify or whatever winding road has led you to us, please don't hesitate to apply if the description above leaves you thinking, 'Hey! I could do that!'

We’re looking for a senior level Platform Engineer who excels at designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable systems and infrastructure. As a key member of The Motley Fool’s CloudOps team, you'll play a crucial role in building and managing our AWS cloud infrastructure and supporting services. You'll also oversee the creation and deployment pipelines for our applications, maintain various environments, and help shape the best solutions for recurring challenges. This role is technical and hands-on, demanding a deep understanding of cloud platforms, networking, software design, operations, automation, and containerization.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • 40% of your time will be dedicated to modernizing and enhancing every facet of our platform, from CDN to Kubernetes and everything in between.

  • 30% will involve collaborating with our development teams to troubleshoot issues and boost performance for our NextJS and Django based applications.

  • 20% will focus on accelerating our CI/CD processes and reducing time-to-market for our stakeholders.

  • 10% will be spent on optimizing costs.

What we are looking for:

  • 8+ years of experience in platform engineering within a product-focused company.

  • Startup Experience. If you’ve been part of a technology startup, you understand the challenges that come with the growth and maturity of a platform.

  • Software Frameworks: Hands-on experience with NextJS and Django.

  • Developer Experience: Passionate about enhancing the local developer experience and mentoring team members.

  • Automation & Observability: Experienced in automating code lifecycle management from development to production and using observability tools such as CloudWatch and DataDog to optimize performance across environments.

  • IaC Skills: Advanced skills in Terraform (IaC) for setting up reproducible and scalable environments, designing infrastructure for AWS-hosted applications, event-driven systems, containerized services on Kubernetes, and serverless functions.

This is a dynamic environment where rapid communication, inventive problem-solving, and creative solutions are both essential and encouraged. We strive for excellence in our work while also valuing a strong work-life balance, ensuring that we work hard and play even harder.

Please note, no sponsorship is available for this position. You must reside in, or be willing to relocate to, one of these states for employment: California, Colorado, Florida, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington DC, and Wisconsin.

Below you’ll see a few of our perks, but check out this site for the complete list:

  • No “vacation policy” (not to be confused with a “No vacation” policy)

  • Paid maternity, paternity, and pet-ernity leave

  • $1,000 to invest when you start

  • Super low premiums for medical, dental and vision coverage

  • Comprehensive compensation package, including company equity
