Senior Manager, Global Product Safety Compliance

Johnson Controls has an exciting Global Product Safety Compliance opportunity within the Global Products organization. We are looking for a Senior Manager to join the Global Quality team within JCI’s Global Products and lead the Safety and Regulatory Compliance Team and Strategic Initiatives. This individual partners closely with Johnson Controls Quality and Legal Departments to assure compliance programs are appropriately implemented, monitored, and maintained. This position will also collaborate with customers, supply chain, external alliance partners, engineering, and various functional business unit stakeholders.

THIS POSITION IS FULLY REMOTE WITH LIMITED TRAVEL.

This role will not provide for sponsorship to work in the United States now, or in the future.

What you will do

Under the guidance of the Global Product Safety Compliance Director, the Senior Manager, Global Product Safety Compliance (PSC) is accountable for safety regulatory compliance process improvements, and execution of key compliance programs to drive proactive and sustained compliance in lifecycle management of the product line, from new product introduction (NPI) through end of life (EOL), to enable delivery of business needs.

The Global PSC Senior Manager must have a good understanding and experience in regional and global safety standards to lead the Product Safety team. The Product Safety team works with the new product development teams on core safety DFMEA/PFMEA/Control Plan templates for the Global Products and will ensure lessons learned (safety related field campaigns, warranty, etc.) are rolled back into safety templates, and NPI.

The Global PSC Senior Manager will lead and advise on potential product safety issues and lead efforts to determine root cause analysis, risk assessment, resolution and field communications driving these issues to completion and implementing preventative actions. He or she will ensure global safety standards and city, state, country or province codes are met. He or she must also have a good understanding of technical interpretation of safety standards and support regional branch and field code compliance questions from customers or Authorities having Jurisdiction.

How you will do it

  • Define and drive product segment strategies to implement a prioritized roadmap for NPI.

  • Manage and lead the Global Product Safety team.

  • Serve as an expert regulatory compliance advisor and Subject Matter Expert on key strategic and critical compliance issues.

  • Provide compliance expertise and global compliance perspective in the development of risk mitigation strategies.

  • Understand product and process risk profiles, proactively identify and prioritize risks. Partner with stakeholders to escalate critical risks to the appropriate level of management.

  • Partners with Supplier Quality leadership to provide compliance oversight and execute compliance programs to ensure compliance with all voluntary, regulatory and statutory standards.

  • Represent Regulatory Compliance in applicable forums and councils.

  • Execute follow ups to audits, significant regulatory inspections, and regulatory actions. Partner with stakeholders to drive effective, sustainable action against associated action plans.

  • Manage the relationship and be an active participant in different norms and standards committees (i.e.: UL, EN, ASTM, etc.).

  • Maintain knowledge and application of the product safety regulations, standards, requirements and certifications that apply to Johnson Controls products.

  • Partner with other areas to identify critical areas for improvements in the product to assure continuous improvement.

What we look for

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline.

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in Product Safety Regulatory Compliance.

  • Prior experience leading various aspects of Safety Regulatory and Compliance globally.

  • Experience developing strategy for Product Safety.

  • Proven track record of achieving successful compliance outcomes, remediating compliance issues, and supporting regulatory inspections.

  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills.

  • Demonstrated high level Project Management skills.

  • Change maker with bias for positive action.

  • Flexible and agile; able to adjust to changing circumstances and business demands

  • Skills to work well and solve field issues with Certification regulators, field inspectors, etc.

  • Ability to build partnerships, handle complex situations, mediate issues and build consensus and impact outcomes without always having line authority.

  • Capable of negotiating trade off decisions across the organization.

  • Strong analytical skills and experience implementing risk-based oversight programs.

  • Strong executive communication and presentation skills.

  • Ability to balance technical understanding of products and processes with compliance perspective and business acumen.

  • Ability to navigate in a dynamic global organization and building strong partnerships with key stakeholders across multiple multi-national geographies.

  • Balanced contribution of listening, technical, analytical skills, and problem interpretation into technical product requirements.

  • Demonstrate strategic agility when faced with difficult situations when no near-term clear path is ideal and keeping focus on long-term goals of platform.

  • Travel may be required up to 5% -10%, typically domestic (possibly some future international travel).

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of 8D, FMEA process is helpful but not required.
