Senior Litigation Counsel
Why this role matters:
Vonage is seeking a skilled Litigation Counsel to lead and manage litigation, disputes, and investigations across all areas of the business and in multiple countries. This role will serve as the company’s in-house counsel, overseeing matters involving commercial, consumer, employment, and regulatory issues in both judicial and regulatory forums. The Litigation Counsel will manage external counsel, oversee discovery, draft pleadings and other legal documents, advise internal stakeholders, handle pre-litigation disputes, and develop proactive strategies to minimize legal exposure and business risk. This position reports to the Head of Regulatory and Risk.
Your key responsibilities:
Manage litigation, arbitration, and pre-litigation disputes across Vonage and its subsidiaries.
Serve as the primary point of contact for external counsel and oversee litigation budgets, strategy, and reporting.
Provide legal advice and support on subpoenas, claims, government inquiries, and regulatory investigations.
Lead internal investigations, fact gathering, and discovery management.
Oversee responses to regulatory agencies and manage document production and eDiscovery.
Advise leadership and business teams on litigation trends, potential exposure, and settlement strategies.
Maintain case tracking and reporting for internal management and governance reviews.
Oversee processes for service of process and discovery.
Support insurance recovery and indemnification matters.
Provide guidance on litigation preparedness, document retention, and risk management.
What you’ll bring:
Required:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and active license to practice law in at least one U.S. state.
Minimum 5 years of litigation experience, including responsibility for case management and strategy.
Experience handling commercial and consumer litigation.
Experience with government or regulatory investigations (e.g., FCC, FTC, state AGs).
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including advocacy and negotiation.
Proven ability to manage multiple matters and work directly with senior leadership.
Business-oriented judgment and ability to balance legal risk with operational goals.
Experience working in or with technology and telecommunications.
What we consider a plus:
Prior in-house experience managing litigation or regulatory enforcement matters.
Familiarity with eDiscovery, data preservation, and information governance.
Experience with mediation, arbitration, and other forms of dispute resolution.
Experience handling employment disputes, administrative complaints, and consumer claims in coordination with HR and Compliance.
