Apply for this position

The Sandberg Goldberg Bernthal Family Foundation (SGBFF) works to build a more equal and resilient world. We bring people together to support each other through four initiatives: LeanIn.Org, LeanInGirls.Org, OptionB.Org, and the Dave Goldberg Scholarship Program.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Designer / Design Director to personally design and shape our digital, program, and brand work while guiding the evolution of our broader design practice. This is a hands-on creative leadership role for someone who actively designs— concepting, crafting, and executing—while also setting direction, building systems, and mentoring others. You will be directly responsible for designing high-impact work across digital platforms, marketing campaigns, learning experiences, and emerging AI-powered products.

In this role, you will both design and guide execution, working closely with an internal designer and a network of contractors. You will also play a hands-on role in shaping how our organization uses Generative AI in creative work—experimenting, designing, and building workflows yourself, while establishing principles, tools, and processes that integrate AI thoughtfully into our design practice.

The ideal candidate is a strong visual and strategic designer who enjoys both defining systems and actively designing themselves – you can expect approximately 75% of this role to be hands-on design work, with the remaining 25% focused on oversight and guidance. You are comfortable leading people, collaborating cross-functionally, and experimenting with new technologies to push creative and learning experiences forward.

What You Will Do

Creative, Program & Product Design Leadership

  • Lead the creative vision and execution across marketing campaigns, owned digital channels (websites, email), program materials, and AI-enabled products, ensuring work is strategic, cohesive, and high quality.

  • Oversee program and curriculum design, including the visual and structural design of toolkits, trainings, workshops, facilitator guides, and other learning materials that are clear, engaging, and accessible for diverse audiences.

  • Oversee the design of assets for integrated marketing campaigns, including paid media, organic social, and campaign-specific creative, ensuring alignment with campaign strategy and brand standards.

  • Lead the design of our annual Women in the Workplace report, including layout, visual storytelling, and data visualizations that translate complex research findings into clear, compelling, and accessible insights.

  • Lead channel-specific design across core owned surfaces, including the website and email, balancing brand expression, usability, and performance.

  • Partner closely with Marketing, Programs, Communications, Research, and other cross-functional teams to translate strategy, insights, and goals into compelling digital, learning, and product experiences

Systems Thinking & Brand Governance

  • Own and evolve brand guidelines, including sub-guidelines across our full offering and experiences, and oversee the implementation across all channels

  • Build and maintain scalable design systems that support consistency across marketing, programs, and product touchpoints

  • Act as a steward of the brand, ensuring coherence and quality across all touchpoints

Team & Vendor Management

  • Oversee our internal and external design practice, providing clear direction, feedback, and opportunities for growth

  • Manage external designers, creative contractors, and generative AI platforms as needed

  • Establish efficient workflows and processes that enable high-quality output across multiple workstreams in a remote environment

General AI & Innovation

  • Build internal capabilities, standards, and best practices for using Generative AI responsibly in design, content creation, and learning experiences

  • Explore and prototype new ways AI can enhance content development and user experiences

  • Stay current on emerging trends in design, learning, and AI, translating innovation into practical application

What You Will Bring

  • 8+ years of experience in digital, brand, program, or product design, with increasing leadership responsibility

  • Demonstrated experience designing websites, email, digital and integrated campaigns

  • Proven ability to design program materials, toolkits, or curricula for learning or training experiences

  • Strong systems thinker with experience creating and maintaining brand guidelines and sub-guidelines

  • Experience overseeing designers and collaborating with contractors or agencies

  • Ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on design guidance

  • Background in accessibility and inclusive design, including familiarity with WCAG standards

  • Experience translating research or data into clear, compelling visual narratives

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills in a remote or distributed team environment

  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience in UX design and user-centered product development

What We Will Offer You

  • The base salary for this role varies by location: At the Senior Manager level: $133,200 - $143,100 (National) / $148,000–$159,000 (Bay Area/New York Metro). At the Director level: $149,400–$153,000 (National) / $166,000–$170,000 (Bay Area/New York Metro). The final amount depends on experience, skills, and qualifications. In addition to base salary, full-time employees are also eligible for a performance-based bonus of up to 10% of their annual salary.

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) with 4% employer match, unlimited PTO, and more!

  • The opportunity to help shape the people function of a mission-driven organization

  • A collaborative, supportive, and mission-driven team culture

  • A fully remote workplace, with periodic in-person meetings and events

  • We are open to hiring for this role at varying levels of seniority and will determine the appropriate level based on experience, leadership capabilities, and potential impact.
