JOB DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a Database Engineer with deep expertise in SQL Server and Azure cloud technologies to join our product engineering team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, AI-enhanced SDLC and is passionate about building scalable, secure, and high-performance applications.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, implement, and optimize SQL Server databases for high availability, scalability, and performance.
Establishes database management systems, standards, guidelines and quality assurance for database deliverables, such as conceptual design, logical database, capacity planning, external data interface specification, data loading plan, data maintenance plan and security policy.
Lead and support Azure migration efforts for legacy databases and data services.
Develop and maintain cloud-native data solutions using Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, Cosmos, and other relevant services.
Documents and communicates database design. Evaluates and installs database management systems. Codes complex programs and derives logical processes on technical platforms. Builds windows, screens and reports. Assists in the design of user interface and business application prototypes. Participates in quality assurance and develops test application code in client server environment.
Provides expertise in devising, negotiating and defending the tables and fields provided in the database. Adapts business requirements, developed by modeling/development staff and systems engineers, and develops the data, database specifications, and table and element attributes for an application. At more experienced levels, helps to develop an understanding of client's original data and storage mechanisms.
Determines appropriateness of data for storage and optimum storage organization. Determines how tables relate to each other and how fields interact within the tables for a relational model.
Operate in an AI driven SDLC environment:
Collaborate with AI copilots to convert stakeholder requirements into structured data models and specs.
Use generative AI tools to iterate on database architectures and performance strategies.
Pair program with AI assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude) to write, refactor, and validate SQL in real-time.
Implement tools for automated validation, bug prediction, and self-healing data pipelines.
Collaborate with application engineers to ensure seamless integration between backend data systems and product features.
Monitor and troubleshoot database performance, security, and compliance issues.
Required Qualifications:
6+ years of experience in database engineering with a focus on SQL Server.
Strong understanding of database design, indexing, query optimization, and stored procedures.
Proven experience with Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, and cloud-native data architectures.
Familiarity with AI code assistants like GitHub Copilot, or similar tools.
Knowledge in distributed databases and ELT tools, data stream processing tools is a big plus.

The targeted base salary for this position is $87,500 to $131,100 per year. The final compensation will be determined by a number of factors such as qualifications, expertise, and the candidate’s geographical location.
