Senior Database Administrator

Join Workiva's innovative team as a Senior Database Administrator, where you'll be at the forefront of shaping and maintaining our database infrastructure. This role offers the opportunity to drive best practices and collaborate across engineering teams to ensure the smooth operation of our systems.

What You'll Do

• Work with a small team of DBAs in supporting and optimizing Workiva's database infrastructure

• Collaborate closely with engineering teams to troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues

• Develop and implement best practices for databases, including infrastructure, usage patterns, and support, ensuring a high performing and reliable platform

• Escalate and address performance bottlenecks, focusing on optimizing critical system components.

• Provide L3 support to Site Reliability Engineering and Software Support Engineering teams for production issues related to databases 

• Drive the ongoing projects collaborating with infrastructure engineering and product teams

• Provide guidance to engineering teams, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement

• Contribute to database-centric initiatives, such as refactoring some of Workiva’s critical backend services from MySQL to PostgreSQL

What You'll Need

• 2+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong Proficiency in PostgreSQL to support application needs within the Workiva ecosystem

• Proficiency in MySQL administration

• Proficiency in AWS Cloud, including Aurora RDS

• Experience working with open-source database technologies

• Previous experience with database upgrades and migrations

• Familiarity with performance monitoring and tuning tools

• Strong scripting and automation experience

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to effectively engage with engineering teams

• Proven ability to lead small teams and drive best practices in a collaborative environment

• Strong team communication skills to foster collaboration and teamwork

• Proven ability to support all engineering efforts across the organization

• Supportive mindset towards enabling teams and fostering best practices

• Employing a tactful approach to problem-solving, escalation management, and ensuring smooth operations, while also handling critical or sensitive information

How You’ll Be Rewarded

✅ Salary range in the US: $79,000.00 - $134,000.00

✅ A discretionary bonus typically paid annually

✅ Restricted Stock Units granted at time of hire

✅ 401(k) match and comprehensive employee benefits package
