An overview of this role

As a Sales Commission Analyst, you'll help ensure that GitLab's sales incentives are accurate, transparent, and aligned with how we support customers. You'll own day-to-day commission calculations, reporting, and first-tier end user support so sales team members are paid correctly and can trust the data that guides their performance. You'll work closely with Sales and Sales Operations, use incentive compensation tools and SFDC to research and resolve compensation questions, and continuously improve processes to make our commission operations more efficient and compliant, including supporting SOX-related documentation and reporting.

What You’ll Do

  • Execute accurate worldwide sales commission calculations, reporting, and first-tier end user support using compensation analytics tools.

  • Investigate and resolve compensation issues by tracking, researching, and providing clear analysis to stakeholders.

  • Interpret and apply all sales compensation plans, ensuring calculations are correct and plan participants are accurately credited for their transactions.

  • Track and report on commission plan acceptance and related documentation to support compliance and timeliness.

  • Partner with Sales, Sales Operations, and Finance to validate data, clarify policies, and align on compensation decisions.

  • Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements that increase efficiency and reduce manual work in commission operations.

  • Support SOX compliance through thorough documentation, controls testing support, and audit-ready reporting.

  • Prepare ad hoc analyses and contribute to projects that enhance the effectiveness and scalability of GitLab's sales incentive programs.

What You’ll Bring

  • Background in accounting, finance, economics, or another quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience

  • Experience working with sales incentive programs, including understanding of compensation plans, processes, and procedures

  • Experience as an Xactly Incent administrator or power user, with the ability to configure plans, validate commissions, and optimize system performance

  • Proficiency interpreting, analyzing, and validating data to support accurate commission calculations and reporting

  • Strong attention to detail, with a structured, self-directed approach to problem solving and organization

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain findings and resolve issues with cross-functional partners

  • Hands-on experience with Salesforce (SFDC), Google Workspace, and an incentive compensation management tool

  • Familiarity with SaaS and B2B sales environments and related sales operations practices

  • Interest in GitLab and open source software, alignment with GitLab's values, and willingness to learn and use GitLab in day-to-day work

About the team

You'll join a small, specialized team that supports Sales and Sales Operations by managing the end-to-end sales commission process, from plan execution through analytics and compliance. The team works across functions such as Finance, Revenue Operations, and Sales leadership to ensure commission plans are understood, implemented accurately, and reflected correctly in downstream systems. As part of GitLab's all-remote, globally distributed team, you'll collaborate asynchronously with colleagues in multiple regions using GitLab and Google Workspace to document processes, share analysis, and drive continuous improvements to how we calculate, report, and govern sales incentives.

How GitLab will support you

  • Benefits to support your health, finances, and well-being

  • Flexible Paid Time Off

  • Team Member Resource Groups

  • Equity Compensation & Employee Stock Purchase Plan

  • Growth and Development Fund

  • Parental leave

  • Home office support

Please note that we welcome interest from candidates with varying levels of experience; many successful candidates do not meet every single requirement. Additionally, studies have shown that people from underrepresented groups are less likely to apply to a job unless they meet every single qualification. If you're excited about this role, please apply and allow our recruiters to assess your application.
